Just before I go whinging at O2, can anyone advise me if an issue I have
is to do with my SIM card, or the network settings...

I've had the same SIM card for donkeys years on various O2 contracts
just moving from phone to phone as I've gone on. Upgraded the phone
recently to a Nokia E90 (Had a 9500i before), and all is mostly well.
The phone can make traditional GPRS calls, an when I put it into 3G only
mode, can still make voice calls when in a 3G enabled area... But I
don't seem to be able to make data calls via 3G - only via GPRS...

So, is it the SIM card, or something else that needs to be noodled with
at the O2 (or phone?) end?

Cheers,

Gordon

If your current SIM does not have 3g written on it somewhere then it
doesn't support 3g.

You'll have to ask o2 or your service provider for a replacement SIM.

Given that it's some 8 years old and 3G hadn't been invented then, I
suspect it doesn't support it!

OK. Thanks!

I did this recently.  They took the details over the phone and shipped me
out a new sim.  When the sim was shipped O2 deactivated the old sim which
meant I was without my phone for about 24 hours until the postie shoved the
new sim through the door.  When it was delivered I put it in the phone and
that was it.  All existing credit had been moved onto the new sim
automatically.
