Newbie question on 'proper' internet access via a mobile

After years of avoiding the, ahem, 'mobile internet' I've splashed out
and bought myself an HTC TyTN II and now want to get myself surfing
from the phone.

I've got an ancient O2 SIM on PAYG and I was hoping to carry on using
that (I don't make many calls or texts) with the 'O2 Web Bolt On' for
£7.50/month.  However when I called up O2 to try and set things up
they tell me that the Bolt ON will ONLY provide access to WAP and not
the 'proper' internet.

I've no interest in WAP, I want full http/html access to the internet.

So, some new boy questions...
(a) Is there any way to get full internet access on O2 PAYG?  (BTW I'm
not interested in POP/SMTP, I only need HTTP and possibly a VPN)
(b) Can you recommend another supplier?  Low voice/text and high data
usage??

Three pay as you go- add the internet add-on for £0.50 for a day;
£2.50 for a week or £5 for a months access.

This is also meant to be used for accessing sites from your phone only
but it works for full internet access unlike o2.  Just make sure you
dont exceed the usage allowance of i think 1GB/month(?)

Three also give you £10 credit if you port a number into a pay as you
go sim.

Thats all well and good providing you don't mind your 10gbp credit
expiring after 1 month.
