Nokia 6300 is a very good phone.

6300 is the obvious progression from a 6230

Ok well here are the main differences between the four models you mentioned:
SE V630i (Announced May 2006)
Tri-band GSM + 3G (allows fast connection to WAP pages & net and videocalls)
Dimensions 102 x 45.7 x 16.9 mm
Weight 91 g
2Megapixel camera
SE W610i (Announced Feb 2007)
Quad-band GSM + EDGE (allows fast (not as fast as 3G) connection to WAP
pages & net if your network supports it)
Dimensions 102 x 46 x 14 mm
Weight 95 g
2Megapixel Autofocus camera + Flash
FM Radio
Samsung U600 (Announced Feb 2007)
Quad-band GSM + EDGE
Dimensions 103.5 x 49.3 x 10.9 mm
Weight 81 g
Slider form factor
3.2Megapixel camera + Flash
FM Radio
Nokia 6300 (Announced Nov 2006)
Tri-band GSM + EDGE
Dimensions 106.4 x 43.6 x 11.7 mm, 56 cc
Weight 91 g
2Megapixel camera
FM Radio
They all have very similar functionality besides what is mentioned above -
all have Bluetooth 2.0 for example, and all have similar size (and identical
resolution) colour screens. The Samsung and the SE W610 have better cameras
(with flash). The Nokia will obviously feel a bit more familiar to you
considering you already have one, though the SE interface is certainly
pretty user friendly too (don't know about the Samsung as never used one).
On balance I would be inclined to suggest the W610 (for its autofocus/flash
camera and better roaming support), or the Nokia (for its familiarity). I
doubt you will find 3G particularly useful and other than that the V630i
comes up short against the other handsets. I just don't have any experience
with Samsung handsets to be able to recommend them or not.
Hope that helps.

Very comprehensive and helpful answer!
Thanks very much Simon.
I have got my choice down to SE W610i or Nokia 6300. The fact that the V630i
doesn't have a radio is a show stopper for me as I listen to the radio quite
a lot on my existing phone. and anyway, 3G is not something I'm especially
bothered about. Don't use the browser or other internet functions on my
phone that much anyway, so GPRS or EDGE speeds will be perfectly fine.
Quite fancy the looks of the 6300(and my last 3 phones have all been Nokias)
but the 2.5mm headphone jack concerns me slightly. (See my other post 'Nokia
6300/TMobile questions').
Also with the W610i I like the the flash on the camera and its
Quadbandedness(if that's not a word then it should be!).
Do you know what sort of headphone connectivity the W610i has?
Decisions, decisions!! I guess the next step is to go to a store and have a
play with both handsets to see which one I like the 'feel' of best...

> Do you know what sort of headphone connectivity the W610i has?
The phone itself only has a proprietary connector that is used for all
connectivity - however the handsfree cable that connects to it has a
standard 3.5mm connector I believe (so you can either use the included
earbuds or your own headphones).

goods, they also price match some websites as well. What other mobiles did
they have?
