Manual says: gold connectors must be facing down, but it doesn't seem to
fit! Is the manual wrong, or do i need a different card, or something?

Turn it over and try that way?

Some have a "sprung" connection, and you need to push it into place
against a little resistance.
To get them out again push it in a little further, and it'll pop out.

You're sure it is "micro SD" card and slot? A Sandisk card may come
with micro-to-mini and micro-to-SD adapters - if so, compare the fit
of your titchy card into its adapter, right way and wrong way, with
how it feels in the phone. And of course there's a bunch of other
card types besides SD. There even could be a foreign body in the slot!

"Natasha, get out of the phone, please..."
