Hi group,
Just a quick one question if I may...
I own a Nokia E61i, an excellent piece of kit, highly recommended, but I
digress!
When connected to my wireless network, it shows on my router with a
wireless device name of "--"
Being a bit anal, I would like to change the device name to fit in with
the naming conventions on my network. However I cannot find anywhere
within the E61i menu system whereby this might be accomplished. Does
anyone have any experience of this?
I have googled and also visited a few specialist forums, with little
luck and so I throw the question open to what I hope will be the most
relevant usenet group.
Cheers and beers,
Timfy

DHCP allows the device to tell the server its name, or the server can tell
the device its name. If the first direction isn't working you could try the
other instead. Perhaps, somewhere in the router's settings, you can assign
a name explicitly? You might have to assign a fixed IP address outside the
normal DHCP range to the phone (router should give you phone's MAC address
which you'll have to enter) and there may be an option to set the hostname
there. Or there may be a nameserver or hosts file section on the router
where you can set up names for your network there.
