Fed up with VM

ChrisM - 06 Feb 2008 12:15 GMT Argh,
I'm fed up with Vrigin Mobile. - Website that doesn't work properly ('Oops, something seems to have gone wrong...') (and don't get me started on the patronising tone of all their emails and web pages.) - No data bundles and a rip-off rate for on-demand (0.5p per Kb!) - Though they said in a recent email that they might be introducing something 'in the very near future'... but I'm not holding my breath. - Poor coverage.
It just seems to be aimed at kids, rather than providing a professional 'grown-up' service. The problem is, their calls and texts tariff seems to be unbeatable, and that is MOSTLY what I use. I'm currently paying £10/month for a 300 x-network anytime minutes and 300 texts 'non-contract bundle'. Can anyone suggest anywhere that does a deal that comes close to this? I'd prefer not to go to a contract if I can help it, but would consider it if everything else was good... I suppose I use on average 100 minutes a month, and about 100-200 texts. Don't need a new phone as I've just bought one (non-3G though), so looking for a SIM only deal, though I suppose if a phone came included, I could sell it...

How do you get the 300-300 deal? Can't see it on the website.

Sheila - 06 Feb 2008 14:17 GMT > Argh, > [quoted text clipped - 19 lines] > for a SIM only deal, though I suppose if a phone came included, I could > sell it... check out o2's online 15 sim only tarrif, 200 mins and 400 text plus free o2 to o2 for £15 per month. That's their lowest sim only deal. I have contract with o2 and am more than happy with c/s, phone, and coverage etc.

I have >contract with o2 and am more than happy with c/s, phone, and coverage etc. I have the 300/300 tariff. VMobile recently sent me a text saying I could have 2 friends on the same deal. If you know someone who has VirginMedia services and Virgin Mobile then you could ask them if they received a similar text message. For me, the MASSIVE failing of VMobile is the inadequate provision for Net downloads. They offer no data chunks in the package. I would much prefer to have no texts at all but with some data. If their network provider, T-Mobile, can do 'web and walk' etc. why can't VMobile do something. They are really behind the times. Eventually I'll be dropping VMobile, when I get a new phone, because of this. I use 'dial up' from my phone to access the Net so then I can use up the minutes. The VMobile charge of £5/MB is too much. When will they realise that Net access is the way to go!?

ChrisM - 07 Feb 2008 12:34 GMT >>> Argh, >>> [quoted text clipped - 48 lines] > Remove 'no_spam_' from email address. > --- TOTALLY agree with you about data provision. I think Virgin are geared up more for teenagers than adults/business people. (You have only got to look at their website, or read any of their emails to see that!). However, I think kids now probably want web access and so forth as much as businessmen, so VM need to wake up and look at what their customers want!! I emailed them recently, asking about Net-Access bundles. They replied to say that although they don't really have anything at the moment, that 'in the very near future' they will be making an announcement on this... So watch this space (but I won't be holding my breath...).

I'm pleased to hear that they might be doing something. The trouble is it will probably be an extra. I'd be happy to take less minutes and no texts if I could have ADEQUATE data for my £10.

You may be right but I sent them an email on this subject and they rang me back. They said, as stated, that they were planning offering data. I think they will have to, or risk their demise. The mobile operators have been trying to sell mobile Net for a long time now but WAP didn't do much to wow anyone. With the advent of the new, touchscreen phones, and more in the offing, many now want mobile access to the Net and I think that this will now take off - providing, of course, that the price is right and that it is an open access and not a walled garden like they peddle in Australia. It is almost a case of pay to come into our shop. Additionally, mobile Net access in Australia appears to be restricted to contract phones - bonkers in my opinion! So, if done properly, mobile Net access here could be very successful and VM would be mad not to offer it very soon.
