So I saw a preview of the N96, the next upgrade to the N95 8Gb. Needless
to say I want one, but is there any news of a release date? My current
phone will be due for an upgrade in about 3-4 months, will I be in luck?

You don't have to upgrade the moment it is possible. If there's a
handset you're after, why not stick with the old one till the new one
comes out?

When did you last "upgrade" your landline phone..? Why change just for
change's sake..?
If it ain't broke.................

When did your (land) line rental last include a substantial premium to
offset the multi-hundred pound handset subsidy you received at the start of
the contract?
As long as the UK mobile contract financial model revolves around an upfront
subsidy, it remains "expensive" to continue to pay the full line rental past
the end of the contract - as you are effectively paying for a subsidy you
aren't receiving. Now the "usual" way (if you don't simply carry on paying
beyond the minimum period) of course is to upgrade to a new handset, receive
a new subsidy and sign to a new minimum contract - but there are at least
now some providers who provide alternatives like a reduced cost tariff (for
the same minutes/texts) instead. Sometimes threatening to leave can help
these sorts of tariffs to magically appear! :)

Hmmmm, a little too late for me. I guess I have the following options:
1) Renew my contract with an upgrade to a different phone (probably an
N95 8Gb)
2) Renew my contract on a cheaper tariff for 12-16 months and keep my N73.
3) Carry on with my current tariff outside the contract until the N96 is
released.... which means I'll be paying over the odds for a few months
while I wait.
Not keen on any of those options really, but I do quite like the look of
the N96 so will probably end up with option 3. Just have to hope it
doesn't get delayed.
