Fed up with VM (Part2)

Having problems since last night sending picture messages and accessing the
internet on my SE W610i (well I say having problems, what I mean is it
totally doesn't work)
Phoned Virgin TS, and was told that they were 'having problems with the
WAP'...(eh? have we just gone back 5 years??) and they didn't know when it
would be sorted out.

Anyway, just wondered if anyone else on the Virgin network (not sure if it
includes T-Mobile, but doubt it) is having problems with picture messages or
internet access, or if they have more of a clue just what the problems are?
Also, anyone know if VM has a 'network status' type page on their website
anywhere that might let me know when things are working again... (I've been
searching in vain).

(I live in the Bedfordshire area)

Yes, same here:  I kept getting "ervice not available" when trying to
access the internet via Virgin GPRS yesterday.

Seems to be working at the moment, though (16:30, Friday).

Yes, the picture message I tried to send yesterday, that has been 'queued'
on my phone ever since seems to have just vanished from the Outbox, so I
assume things are working again...
Wonder if this has got anything to do with their plans to introduce some
decent data-plans in the 'very near future'...?

Could be, but it's too late for me as I'm already in the process of
migrating to 3 (arranged today to port my Virgin number to them).

FWIW, I was happy with Virgin's PAYG but the new "15p minimum call
charge" is unworkable for me -- I make a number of 12 sec calls
during the day to check an answering machine -- and their monthly
contract offers weren't competitive enough in the low-use range
that I wanted.

Have you looked at their PAYG bundles?
I'm considering moving, but the £10/month for 300 minutes and 300 texts that
I get is hard to beat (it is for customers with Virgin Cable/broadband and
landline).
However, I as would like to make more use of phone based internet and email,
and their data charges are so stupidly expensive (>£5/Mb) that I think I
will be forced to change providers before too long, unless they introduce
some sensible data bundles soon...

I looked at them, and whilst I can't recall the details I know that
on balance -- given what I was spending (about £20/month) -- the
figures didn't work for me;  the 3 deal (300 mix-and-match for £15)
will cover all my phone and text, and data is either by a bundle or
£2 (I think) per Mb.

That would indeed have been a good deal -- but I don't have (nor do
I want) VM's landline or TV service.  (Horses and courses thing,
but for various reasons, I'm really not fond of bundled services.
I haven't done it as a conscious thing, but I've wound up with
separate providers for my landline, mobile, TV, and broadband
services, and I feel very comfortable with that set-up.)
