Vodafone GPRS when Roaming

From looking at the Vodafone website there seem to be very few networks with
which they have GPRS roaming.

e.g. in Portugal only Vodafone Portugal offers GPRS
in Spain only Vodafone Spain offers GPRS etc...

Why are they not offering more networks with data roaming?...even other
networks pay as you go customers seem to have a pretty good range of
networks and GPRS and even 3G when abroad.

From experience of being in Europe could anyone confirm the website does
actually show correct information and that GPRS doesn't work?

The Vodafone website is a bit partisan ... it encourages you to use the local
Vodafone network by not telling you about others.

You'll get a better idea of what's available where, and what works with what
from http://www.gsmworld.com/roaming/gsminfo/index.shtml -- though it's not
so good at saying which providers support mobile data (you can discover that
from the providers' own websites).

Daniel.

From my experience, VF have probably the most roaming partners offering both
voice and data. The VF 'going abroad' section of the site does give you an
idea of who they have GPRS roaming agreements with, however I've also found
they can have agreements with providers in some countries, particularly
outside of Europe, for both voice and data and whom are not listed either on
the GSMA's site (link above) or on VF's own site.

Just beware.... There roaming data charges are expensive - they charge in
100kb increments, so if you only use 1kb they charge for 100. No idea what
the exact rules as regarding what time period this is over, but I do know
that this policy made my last roaming data bill v. large. So much so, that I
ditched vf for tmobile who don't have a min increment.

It depends on what APN your connecting through. I think Vodafone Live! have
a min 100kb connection charge but mine was certainly in 10kb chunks when I
was abroad last week.

/How/ they charge seems to depend on the supplier ... but it is expensive,
yes. ISTRT there's a minimum charge per connection for data (€2?) in some
countries, for example -- which can get very expensive in areas with
marginal coverage where the connection is often lost and has to be remade.

Daniel.
