SHOULD be easy enough. Take it to your local mobile phone market stall, or
independant shop and see what they say...

Perhaps I should rephrase a badly worded question

Can anyone please advise me if it is possible for me to unlock a
Seimens Ericsson K800i without taking it to a lcal market on my
nearest "3" dealer. It is currently locked to the 3 network. That is,
I would like to do the unlocking myself

The simplest way would be to contact Three and obtain an unlock code.

Sure it is technically possible, but it would require you buying (or
otherwise obtaining) the necessary unlocking software (and possibly
hardware), and gaining the appropriate knowledge required. Obviously if some
guy down the market can unlock it, you can too, but you will need the tools
and information that he uses. - Don't think it can be done with a simple
code generator like some Nokias.

Sorry I can't help further than that, but when I was looking into unlocking
my phone I found loads of info about various software packages etc with just
a few simple Googles. (in the end, it sounded a bit complicated, and I
didn't want to risk screwing up my phone, so I paid someone to unlock it for
me...)

Dealing with Siemens in work today - think of it as shorthand for
Sony!!
