Yes, me, partner and daughter - but we're all on three and three SIMs won't

Not aware of a way of finding out if it's locked without sticking a SIM into
it.
Have you actually bought the phone? The only way I know is to ask a
friend/work collegue that has a phone that isn't Virgin (or 3) if you can
borrow their SIM and try see if it works...
