My wife has found her Siemens A55 (on Orange PAYG) switched on in her
bag several times recently. Seems today that it switched itself on and
managed to fritter away about GBP8 on SMS's (and possibly calls although
it doesn't show.) She has lost confidence and wants a replacement with a
covered keypad.

For preference I would go for Nokia as their menu system is simple to
use and texting is a breeze, however something suitable is getting
pricey (and we need to have it in hand before the end of the week.)

I have been looking at a Motorola V3 which at about £40 looks to be a
good buy. Anyone any thoughts?

Requirements are:-
Protected keypad when not in use
Bluetooth would be an advantage
A clear screen with large text (one of the disadvantages of age!)
Simple operation.
Simple text operation with clear, reasonably sized, and tactile keys.
mp3 ringtones locally downloadable would be nice (i.e. from PC, not on
line.)
Clamshell would be advantageous to place the mic nearer to her mouth.
Inexpensive

What does not matter:-
Size
Camera
Radio
Music (mp3)
Games

Any advice gratefully accepted.

Nokia 2760 is about £50 on PAYG - does all of the above.

Thanks for that Grant, and I totally agree.

However one thing I missed was ease of unlocking. Currently my Co phone
is on Orange but there is a vague possibility we may be reverting to
Vodafone late this year. To keep call costs down I would prefer a phone
that can easily be unlocked so that I can move my wife to Voda as well.
She doesn't use the phone much - more safety than anything - but she is
extremely cost consious.

From what I read the 2760 cannot at the moment be unlocked by the
'aftermarket' so it would be costly. I believe the V3 on the other hand
is quite simple.

I bought one on PAYG from CPW and it came in a Nokia box. Assistant knew I
was going to use it on Orange but sold me a Talkmobile 'phone' (I assume a
new name for 'Fresh'?). Maybe they get more commission from Talkmobile, or
he had made that month's quota on Orange.

Anyway, the phone was unlocked already.

CPW supply unlocked GSM stock where possible,
it reduces their stock range and the space that would be needed.

Most networks except Orange allow them to do it

Had a look at one at the Gateshead Metro Centre this afternoon. Looks as
though it will do the job.

Only catch is £29.95 on O2, £39.95 on anything else plus a mandatory £10
top-up. Hmmmm..........
