Hi,

I've got a SE S610i, just wondering about security.

I can set a PIN on the SIM card, and one on the phone so that it can't be
used by unauthorised people, if it got stolen, or whatever, however, both of
these codes are only required when the phone is turned on, so as long as
they keep it charges, and don't turn it off, they could continue to use it,
and access the contacts list, diary, notes, etc. etc.

My old Nokia had a keylock pin which meant you could lock the phone such
that you needed to enter a code before you could unlock the keypad. Just
wondered if SE phones have a similar feature (I can't find it...)

I a nutshell, I'm looking for a way to stop someone accessing the phone when
it is already switched on and the PINs entered.

Put the SIM back in the old phone.

The manufacturers have "improved" the design!

My original Nokia was great too - the key lock still allowed you to
answer the phone or dial 999 but required the pin to do anything else.

The closest I've come to mimicking that behaviour is using PIN2 and a
fixed dial list. PITA turning it on and off, though.

Never really looked at PIN2. How does that work then?
I'm guessing something along the lines of you can only dial numbers in your
contacts list, unless you enter a second PIN??

Yeah. Though there's a separate "allow" list. Not all networks support
Fixed Dialling, though, so the option to create a fixed dial list isn't
always in the menu.

Even if it is, they don't always support it (see my other post).

Problem with that is not all networks support PIN2. I wanted to set up
fixed dialling on my Nokia 6310i on a Virgin SIM but although the menu
gives the option to enter a PIN2 code, Virgin say their system doesn't
support it and can't/won't give me a PIN2 code.
