Upgrades on Orange - clawback issues

Some of you may already have been bored to death by another thread I
recently started, judging by the number of replies, but I like to
think it might have something to do with posting through google and
propagation issues through usenet.

Anyway, I've been reading more of the group and have a new question.

Currently: just out of contract on Your Plan 60. (Originally supplied
through Carphone Warehouse with free Nokia 6310i.)

Desired outcome: OVP Virgin on Line 1; Your Plan 120 on Line 2; and an
extra phone.

Reasons:
1. Want free voice mail.
2. Have realised I need to be on a higher tarif than YP 60.
3. Like the idea of paying £5 per month less for YP 120 by having it
on Line 2.
4. Want free 0800.
5. Want an extra phone. (specifically so that when traveling I can
have a local SIM in one phone and my Orange Line 1 number active
simultaneously).

Proposed action:
1. Upgrade through CPW, obtaining extra 6310i.
2. Call OCS and switch Line 1 to OVP Virgin.
3. Call OCS and ask for Line 2 Your Plan 120.

Questions:
1. Will this work?

2. Will I get surcharged £15 per month for switching straightaway to
OVP Virgin after the upgrade? I have read that clawback does not apply
to upgrades and that CPW do not in any case claw back. But I have also
read that you need to wait 3 months and even then you can only switch
as low as Hsdata at £10 a month. In the end, I DO want to stay on an
Orange contract, it's just that I'd like to switch it to Line 2 so
that I can get free voice mail through OVP Virgin on L1 and the fiver
discount on YP120. If I can do this without penalty, will CPW take a
hit? Although keen to save money, I'd rather do it within certain (yet
to be finally determined!) bounds of acceptable behaviour. Would it
help if I waited 3 months to switch down to OVP Virgin?

3. Can I ask for Line 2 YP 120 after I have switched to OVP Virgin on
Line 1? The Orange website says that Line 2 is not available on all
OVP L1 plans. I realise people have this but am wondering whether you
need to set up L2 before your L1 becomes Virgin.

4. If this does work or there is some way of achieving it, what is the
Orange policy on upgrades for people who do have a pay monthly account
but where this account is only on Line 2 with OVP Virgin on Line 1? I
realise that L2 does not generally have any minimum contractual term
so potentially the customer could just take the upgrade and leave the
network. But if the customer has a reasonable overall monthly spend -
not saying I would necessarily but if they did - would Orange not be
keen to keep them interested by offering reasonable upgrade deals
(i.e. below straight OVP Virgin, no Line 2 upgrade costs), whether
through Orange Upgrades or through OCR?

Sorry to ask so many questions but I have tried hard to google my way
to the answers and things like upgrade policies and clawback clauses
do change quite frequently.

Am not as knowledgable as others here, but I thought that it was impossible
to get OVP on Line 1 and another tarrif on line 2.

Won't work, you can't have a line 2 with any OVP plan, I have tried this
route already

Who told you that..? I thought it was just that you couldn't have OVP on L2
but it was ok on L1 with something else on L2..?

Can anyone confirm, as I'd rather like to do this myself..!

But you can transfer an existing contract like OVP Virgin L1, ED50 L2.
If you can find someone willing to transfer it to you.

and can you please trim and reply at the bottom

It used to be possible, but not anymore.

No, you'll get surcharged £25/month for switching to EQ Virgin.

YMMV, you may be able to get someone at OCS to activate a L2 tariff if you
have L1 EQ Virgin.

Upgrade entitlement is based on L1 tariff only - L2 has no effect
whatsoever, so if you don't have a line rental L1 tariff, you don't get a
subsidised upgrade.

Unless you already have Line 2 enabled, forget it.

Rationale: Since Virgin Mobile do not offer Line 2, then Orange won't allow
you to have Line 2. This came into force on October 1st 2002, ie the same
time as YP launched.

Thanks for the replies, everyone - not what I wanted to hear though!

What if I set up Line 2 while still on YP 60 then try to convert Line
1 to OVP Virgin? I'm probably just clutching at straws.

Looks like I need to find a SIM. For my usage I think OVP Virgin Line
1, Everytime 200 on Line 2 would be the answer if I can live without
subsidised handset upgrades. Not seen any adverts for this combination
on uk.adverts.telecom.mobile - do you think they exist? Have checked
Ebay also. Failing that, Everytime 200 Line 1 would be great also but
not seen that either. I'd hate to cannibalise OVP V L1, ED50 L2 and
put a Your Plan on L2.

Meanwhile, I think I'll just OVP V my existing contract, take out a
new YP and buy a new jacket with lots of pockets.

Incidentally, I called OCR yesterday and asked for my PAC, telling
Tubbie I was moving to 3. Tubbie just agreed that 3 was a great deal -
I'm not holding my breath for her to call me back. Maybe I'll try 3
with my 6310i.

Thanks again for all the replies.
