Upgrading T610 Firmware

I've searched google archive for this group to find out how I myself can,
what I need to, and what to download to upgrade the firmware on my T610.
All the responses I have read so far advise one to take the phone to CPW or
other SE store to perform the upgrade.  With my old Siemens SL45 it was
possible for me to download latest firmware and upgrade the phone myself
using the supplied cable connected to USB.  Is something similar not
possible with the T610?  I want to upgrade firmware for two reasons:

1. checking my phone I have R1A version of firmware
2. I want to remove the T-Mobile customisation from the phone

Also, am I correct in assuming that when firmware is upgraded, any phone
numbers/pictures etc stored on the phone are lost?

Any help appreciated.  In the meantime I'll continue to search ...

At the bare minimum you require a cloned terminator dongle (around £35),
a copy of cracked DIV 8.4 final and 3 files: the AVR, ARM and GDFS
flashes.

For the first, contact www.remoteunlocker.com, for the second two visit

I see. Seems an expensive investment for a one off use.  Looks like I'll
have to enquire about sending the phone off to one of the suggested sites
i.e. yours or dvds2000.co.uk .

The terminator dongles appears to be cheaper on ebay.  I have also
found them much cheaper on another site but the minimum order is $100,
so if I can find several other people who want one too them it would
make sense to get them....
