I have a different phone (SL55), but since I had exactly the same
problem for the first time ever about 3 hours ago this evening, and I am
also on Orange, I wondered if it could be too much of a coincidence.
I had unusually low reception displaying, could not send texts, and did
not receive ones that had been sent.
Turned the phone off and on, and all three things fixed themselves.
Was your problem tonight, or is it often? I've not seen it before, until
just before I read your message.

It happens infrequently, maybe every couple of weeks. I should also
mention that it's not because I'm sending where there's no signal - I
always check that, and anyway there are no holes in local coverage where
I live.

Yep - my low coverage reported by the phone was spurious - after a
reboot it was back to normal.
I just don't know whether it was a network problem, or a coincidental
phone problem the same time you had yours!
