My wife is trying to get out of her Verizon contract. It's up on May 9th,
2007. We called customer service and asked what the ETF would be. I was
under the impression that Verizon was pro-rating that fee now, but my wife
was told that it'd be $175 for her to cancel. Is there something special we
have to ask for, or someone we have to talk to to get it prorated? Does
Verizon use a different definition of prorated from the rest of the world?
Or is the prorating only good on new contracts?

AFAIK, pro-rating has not started yet - and when it does, it will be for
new contracts, only.
