I just renewed my NE2 with a VX8300 on the $70/700 minute family share
plan, voice only (not paying for any data plans). I disabled EVDO so the
phone only shows 1x and paired it with my Sony Clie TG50 BT PDA. I am able
to dial #777 with no probs from the PDA, but any combo of qnc/qnc or
my_phone_no@vzw3g.com/vzw causes authentication problems.

I've also discovered, through menu 0 > 000000 > WAP Settings that the WAP
proxy server is locked out from being changed. I can change the port, but
neither primary nor secondary proxy servers, nor the homepage.

Am I missing something with the authentication piece? Might something have
happened with my account when I switched from the 500 minute AC1 family
plan to the 700 minute AC2 family plan?

Inquiring minds want to know!

Thanks for any help/insight.

If all you want is the Quick 2 Net access (14.4 Kbps), then use qnc for
both the Id and the password.  If you want to get the 1xRTT access
(60-144 Kbps), then you would use the id/password that you showed in
your OP, BUT the phone most likely must get some special init string
such as I have documented for Nokias on this group over the last month
or 2.  You also must have some kind of National Access plan feature such
as Get It Now or Mobile Web (think GIN is included with that 700 minute
plan, which I also have, but I pay the extra $5/mo for the Mobile Web).

Check the postings by Angelo DePalma with subjects of "HTTP error" and
"Oy vey, WAP problems" for his experiences in tweaking WAP settings on
the VX8300.

Good luck,
ROC

Oops!  I did not notice that you already specified trying qnc/qnc.
Sorry about that.  Looks like you might be needing the init string
"magic" and/or some kind of National Access feature for data capability.

I still think it would be helpful to check Angelo DePalma's threads (esp
responses).
