I upgraded from a 6100 to an 8300. The pinout of the two phones is
exactly the same but, as you noticed, LG changed the presentation of
the plastic slots at the bottom of the adapter to force you to upgrade.
I took a razor blade and got rid of the appropriate plastic on the
bottom of my serial cable. It took extreme courage to plug it in for
the first time, but my old VX6100 data cable now works just fine on my
8300. Bitpim recognizes my new phone and I'm having no trouble at all.

Apologies for the intrusion.
I too have an 8300 and noticed that you mentioned Bitpim and that you
had it working. If you care to share some info I would appreciate it.
I purchased a bluetooth dongle that sees the phone and
vice-versa...howeve, bitpim does not, no matter what I do. Seems like
the serial settings are com7 & com8 and neither they nor any others
shown in device manager(4 through 14) do either--when I manually
insert them.
I can make the computer 'see' certain instructions from the phone,
depending on what transaction I enter. However, bitpim cannot---times
out each and every time.
I assume the serial connection is what bluetooth uses but I cannot
seem to change the embedded com7 &com8 and, in any case, as I
mentioned, none of them work.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks
Tex

Make sure that you have the latest version of Bitpim.
