I was just looking around on the Sprint site to compare and contrast the
available phones with Verizon's (I currently have Verizon service and use
a Samsung a310).
I think I may now be obsessed with the Samsung i500.
I had Sprint for several years up through about a year ago, and never had
any major problems. Then I bought a new house and it is right in the
middle of a dead spot. Since I don't use the phone as my home phone, that
isn't the end of the world, but it seemed a bit inconvenient, and
switching to Verizon then also gave me a *legitimate* excuse to get a new
phone (as if I ever needed an excuse!). I've also had no real complaints
with the Verizon service.
Anyway, I'm wondering if any of you guys know if there is any plan for a
Verizon version of the i500? Also, if anyone has heard anything about the
Sprint version? My last Sprint phone was the Samsung a400, and I loved the
size and weight: compact yet sturdy feeling, without being too heavy.
Apparently, from what I can tell, the i500 is very close to the same
dimensions.
I hope Verizon is planning to carry this model, and if not and the reviews
on the Sprint version are goo, I might be tempted to go back to Sprint,
dead spot or not.
Any feedback is much appreciated.

Thanks, Jack.
I searched on it a bit. Looks like some things will be improvements over
the i500. The exterior reminds me of my a310 (though I'm sure it's
probably more the size of the i500).

I have in the past activated a Sprint PCS phone on the Verizon
network without issue. I had activated the Samsung I-330 with Verizon
once I obtained the MSL code. You can obtain the MSL code via eBay
where several people offer to unlock phones...for a price..usually
around $25.
I cannot however say whether or not it is possible to get the sprint
phone to use the High speed data network of Verizon. I only tried to
get the voice portion working. Perhaps someone else can speak to this?

Thanks for the feedback, Derek. Hell, I might use that info simply to
activate my old Sprint Samsung a400 in the interim, since I like it more
than my current Verizon a310.

I investigated this a little bit and found plenty of sites where I could
send them my phone to be unlocked. I also saw some software I could
purchase to do it, but it cost $249, which is hardly worth it for my
purposes.
Claiming complete ignorance on this, can my phone be unlocked either
without software, or with a cheapie version that will unlock my Samsung
a400, but that doesn't unlock every phone since the beginning of time?
Then if I successfully unlock the thing, I assume I can activate it myself
online at the Verizon website. I assume activating it will simply "move"
the service from my currently active phone without having to do anything
with that one first?
If anyone can shed some light and would prefer to respond via e-mail,
remove the HATESPAM from my address to respond.
Thanks!

You don't really need to send you phone in to anyone to get the MSL
code. All you need to send to the individual is the ESN # of the
sprint phone in question. Since the MSL code is based on the ESN #.
Once you have the MSL code you can enter the programming menu of the
phone itself where you can change the settings necessary to allow you
to register with Verizons network. I have had no problem going into a
Verizon store and having them enter the new info as long as the phone
was UNLOCKED (i.e. you need the MSL code).

I do not believe that the VZW I 600 is equivalent to the Sprint model I500.
The Sprint model is a palm/ phone, the new VZW unit is Microsoft's
Smartphone which does not appear to have the same functions as the Palm.

Thanks, babaloo. I did notice that.
On a quick check, it actually seemed to me as though the i600 *might* be
more to my liking. It seems like it is probably much easier to use for the
phone functions (does not have the touch screen the i500 has).
Anyone willing to do a quick rundown of the similarities and differences
in these two phones, in terms of the Microsoft Smartphone versus Palm
platforms?
