Verizon puts their own operating system into the non PDA/Smartphones
made by motorola, preventing any accessory software from working with
your Verizon Razr.
The wireless sync will not work with the Verizon RAZR, period. (Perhaps
if hacked)
If you want your pop3 or MS Exchange mail pushed to your phone on the
verizon system, you will need to upgrade to one of the
PDA/Smartphone/Blackberries.
I have been through all this with them. Wife insists I stay with
Verizon, and believe me they are MUCH better than the Cingular support
system. I currently use the Treo700 and it took all of 3 minutes to
input my exchange server info, and everything works fine. Obviously
the Verizon tech crew is not going to try and rewrite an OS to replace
MS Mobile. They have made the regular Moto Razr et al unable to use
the standard Moto software to prevent you from putting your own
ringtones and images on your phone. (they want to sell them to you) In
the process they totally screwed anyone trying to use their phone for
business reasons. I don't need much of the functions of a
PDA/Smartphone, I just want to get a few emails a day, and have my
calendar sync with my Exchange server.

Sorry to answer my own question - but I downloaded the wireless sync
software on Friday (get it now ->business/tools ->wireless sync) and
then setup my account (http://www.wirelesssync.vzw.com/) - worked as
advertised on my new Motorola V3M - no hacks.
I used it for a day with my google POP - it works great - with the
following limitations:
1) It is sync - not push. The fastest sync interval I could find was 1
hour.
2) for exchange - requires software installed on your computer
Bones13 - if you just want to sync your calendar and email hourly -
this would work for $19.99 a month.
