Just did mine last Fri. When I first went through the service menu I
thought that capability was lost as it did not let you enable it.
However I just loaded my 8300 up last night and so far I can play mp3's.
However, I'm still trying to figure out how *exactly* the mp3 player
works.
Much to my amazement, the 8300 picked up the details of one of the
albums I loaded, like year released, genre etc. Impressive considering
the album I chose is rather...old and underground.

How did you "load it up?"
I tried using an SD adapter and copying from my PC to the folder
"my_music".
The message I get when attempting to play is "PLAYER ERROR" followed by
"Music is not available."

I put the card into a old digi cam I had and just copied the mp3's over
to the my_music folder.
These particular mp3's I encoded myself with cdEx several years ago. I
actually I copied 5 whole albums. Three of these albums I've been able
to play and the other two I cannot. All of the playable albums seem to
show up with some metadata of sorts which leaves me to believe that mp3
player is phoning home.
What I'm trying to figure out how the mp3 player really works as in...do
I have to index/catalog the songs before playing?

Anyone know if they added the ability to enlarge the font size for text
messaging?

Geesh! Do they think everyone can see those puny characters? I have 20/20
but trouble with small print. Messaging fonts are terribly small.
Thanks for the reply.

You are welcome.
I too was very disappointed. I didn't know v03 was out, and I knew
v02 didn't have this enhancement. So when I discovered v03 I was hopeful
that this would be one change.
Well, maybe down the line.... it's a great phone otherwise, but I didn't
need my reading glasses with my old Audiovox 8900 :-|
I just upgraded to V03 after writing this. Now I can't play my old V01
MP3's. I deleted the my_mp3 folder and reformatted the card under V03. I
copied my MP3's into the my_music folder using my PC. But still can't
play MP3's. If I go to my_music folder (from the phone) it lists all of
my MP3 files but it still won't play them.
I read something in howardforums about having to re-tag or re-encode my
MP3s and having to download a program to do this (called MP3TAG). But
what do I change with this program? Can anyone help?
Thanks,
-james
