This thread might enlighten you to the shenanigans going on.  One
professes to be a VZW sales rep, "demphonez", and he says it will dial in
even on wifi if you have a dataplan.  He refused the dataplan and says it
does work on his wifi, but that may be because he's a VZW employee.

Looks like the usual lies and bullshit are alive and well on the sales
floor to try to get you to buy what you don't, necessarily, need.  I'm
surprised Wifi access isn't locked out, by default, and activated only if
you buy their slow data service.  After all, they think it's THEIR phone,
you know.

Be informed I just returned a Dell Axim X51v, Dell's finest Windows
Mobile 5.1 PDA.  This isn't a cellular issue, it's Micro$oft's issue.  
WM5.1 crashes about 8-10 times a day on this hardware, completely loses
control of programs at random, causing them to disappear off the Today
screen and the addon Switcher software.  The video crashed, causing the
screen to look like an old TV with horizontal hold problems.  I talked to
WM5 phone user with similar experiences with PDA phones under WM5.  For
these reasons, I'd tell you to stay far away from a WM5 PDA, phone or
not....It just isn't "ready for issue", yet....buggy as hell!

Oh, if you do get WM5 or its 2003 predicessor, TCPMP, a freeware
video/audio player will play music and movies downloaded from Usenet in
any format I have...divx, xvid, MP3 without regard to DMA locking, no
funny business.  Anyone know if TCPMP overrides cellphone music/video
lockouts and other company funny business?
