Is the T730 digital only? When my T720 goes to analog it stays there, I have
to restart it and if I don't notice it, the battery drains. I think I would
like the digital only.

No, and thats a firmware issue on the T720, nothing *wrong* with the fact
the phone has AMPS compatability or not.

If you have a Kyocera or LG phone (to name a couple), simply select
"digital-only" to see what it's like to have a digital-only phone. In my
opinion, phones with this setting give you the best of both worlds. i.e.
leave your default setting "digital-only" then change it back to automatic
if you need to.
There are a few fringe areas where forcing digital-only actually improves my
service because my phone would otherwise drop to analog, however, for the
most part I simply lose coverage area when I manually select digital-only.
Here in Oregon, Verizon is all digital now, however, most of the geographic
coverage in this state (somewhere between 60 and 75%) is roaming coverage.
The roaming partners here have extensive analog-only networks.
I routinely travel through analog-only areas which really isn't hard to do
in this part of the country. Anyway, all of this depends heavily on where
you live and travel, and the usage patterns of the individual involved. I
mean even here in Oregon I know folks who are completely satisfied with
their digital-only phones, however, they don't tend to travel much or when
they do it's to other more populated areas which also have digital coverage.
My tendency is to spend as much time as I can in the small towns and rural
areas (weekend hiking, cross country skiing, exploring, etc.) and prefer
having cellular service whenever possible. I also find myself frequently in
locations with no cellular service of any kind (which is also very common in
the west).
