I have a VX8000 that I have been happy with except for the reception. I think it could be better. I am considering upgrading to a VX8300. It seems that I remember reading that the 8300 is better in reception. Can anyone confirm that? Anyone want to provide their view on the 8300? Thanks, -Frank Great phone. Reception has been excellent, comparable to the Motorola E815. Sound is excellent. Size and weight are small and light. Color displays are excellent. Seems to be less restricted than the Motorola's, even with Verizon's crappy interface. Battery life is very good by today's standards for color display phones. I didn't know it when I wrote this original message, but I now see that the VX8600 is out too. Any comments on that? I do use my current 8000 for DUN (with USB cable) and I know I can continue to do that with the 8300, not sure about the 8600 though (although the 8600 is listed as BlueTooth DUN capable on VZW's page). I also use an external antenna jack. Again, I know the 8300 has that, not sure about the 8600. If the 8600 is the VZWs upgrade from the 8300, I suppose I should get that. I hate buying phones that get discontinued right after my purchase (happened with my 8000). The 8600 looks okay on the VZW web page. Personally I like LG. I looked at the 8600 today in the store. I like it. Also, I saw in the service menu where BlueTooth and Cable DUN can be enabled (they were enabled by default!). I like the vibrator better than the 8000. It's a little quieter. The vib on my 8000 is so strong it can be heard by everyone around me in a room. Kinda defeats the purpose...LOL. Couldn't figure out two things... Appreciate it. Disappointedly, when using the compare feature on the VZW website, the 8600 is listed as "No" for Broadband Access as well as National Access. I have National Access and Preffered Network on my exisiting plan - it may be legacy. My 8000, the 8300, the MotoRzr and MotoKRzr all have Broadband and National Access. Wonder why the 8600 doesn't. I did see DUN capability on the phone. Wonder what's up with that? I do use both BB and NA. EVDO will auto-fallback to RTT-1x when the EVDO signal is not good enough). I do need that. Unfortunately, this is not an area where the salesperson will probably know anything. Drats. Doesn't "National Access" just mean that the phone has analog capability? Verizon and its roaming partners now appear to be so nearly all-digital that it's hard to see lack of analog as a show stopper. I've had an all-digital VG 7000 for two years and haven't noticed the absence of analog, despite trips to northwestern Vermont (where Verizon supposedly still has some digital towers) and central Mississippi (where Verizon is largely absent). Bob National Access means dial-up-network data connection. NA is ~70kbps, Broadband (via EVDO enabled phone) is ~700kbps. Nothing to do with analog. After further research I am reasonably sure this phone would work fine with data. I already have some of the necessary paraphernalia (i.e. external antenna) and I can obtain a USB cable and antenna adapter for around $20 (I have no problem risking $20 - I have that stuff to fit my 8000 now). The phone itself, if it doesn't meet my needs could be returned within 15 days anyway. So... I think the 8600 will be my next phone. My NE2 takes affect Jan 16th. So... I'll collect the necessary bits over the next 6 weeks and give it a go. BTW, another phone that I felt was in the running was the new MotoKRzr. Oddly enough, after looking at it in the store and conferring with a salesman, it was determined that the MotoKRzr does NOT have capability for an external antenna! Hmm... very unusual for high-end phones today. That probably knocks the Moto out of contention for me. Although, I am also looking at possibly taking the jump from my present external antenna setup to a wireless repeater system for my SOHO in my house. If I jump, I won't need the external antenna. Total cost for the repeater would be between $350-700, depending on how I do it. I live in a steel siding house with only minimum signal outside. And... my primary office is in a garden level room (half underground). Hence, external antenna required. It works. Been using it for a couple of years. But I'd love to turn it into wireless rather than wired. Frank, I am glad to hear about the 8600, I am very happy with it, I also bought a 1 GB SD Micro card at Amazon.com (good price) and loaded some of my favorite tunes, now I can have all in one phone and music on the go, I guess until Apple comes out with the iPhone ....LOL.
