Willi Wonka - 20 Jul 2007 03:12 GMT Does this phone suck or what! I have a 2 year contract which is up(thank God) in March 2008) I have had to replace this phone 3 times. The charging port is bogus and when you plug the phone in it shuts down. I have phone insurance and they charge me $50.00 to replace this crappy phone. I have asked to be allowed for an early upgrade due to the numerous problems and 3 replacements but they refuse to. Now with the latest replacement when I push the buttoms to dial sometimes it takes 3 or 4 times for the button to actually work. I think the verizon network has gotten bad also. I have experienced some dropped calls. I thought verizon was suppose to have the best network and fewest dropped calls. What camera phone should I eventually replace this shitty phone with. I only use the phone for calling and a pic if necessary.

I never thought I would ever recommend an LG phone, but LG is making some very (IMO!) high quality and functional phones. My LG Vx8300 is an exceptionally high quality phone compared to my string of Moto phones over the years.

My LG Speaking of which, I'm hoping LG/Verizon gets the Prada pushed through the red tape. It's currently the only phone out there which has some appeal to me.

that Verizon has bailed on Qualcomm over the Broadcom patent infringement. You'll be paying an extra $6 for your phone though.

I just hope the Prada will be realistically priced despite the $6, in light of the overall superiority of the iPhone. Actually, the only new thing the Prada brings to the table is the touchscreen. But I like its styling and size.
XS11E - 20 Jul 2007 04:40 GMT > Does this phone suck or what! No, it's the best phone I've ever had by a HUGE margin! Great signal, incredible battery life, clear as can be listening or talking and totally reliable, not one single hiccup.
My "New every two" is coming up and I'm keeping the E815, wouldn't trade it for anything made now.

At the time, Radio Shack was dealing Verizon. I went to my local RS and bought a new phone for my existing Verizon account. The phone had poor radio performance, so I returned it to the store. I got all of my money back. I re-activated my old handset.
My next Verizon phone bill featured a credit for the phone. Verizon allowed the credit to stand. The only "cost" to me is that I did commit to two more years of service with Verizon. I am not complaining.
A question for the ng: do you think this would still work today?

Work or not work, it's still sort of stealing, and fairly unethical. Not that I wouldn't do the same, but I wouldn't advertise it on the internet.
Actually, being a gadget lover, I wouldn't want to give up my opportunity for an upgrade if something came along that intrigued me, though it could be argued that you already got the discount...
Todd Allcock - 21 Jul 2007 06:12 GMT > Work or not work, it's still sort of stealing, and fairly unethical. I disagree. Whether the OP got the new phone or not, Verizon got the same deal- atwo year contract in return for $xx credit on the customer's bill.
> Not > that I wouldn't do the same, but I wouldn't advertise it on the internet. T-Mo gave me the same deal a little over a year ago. I wanted to upgrade to a then out-of-stock high-end handset. When they explained they wouldn't be restocked for at least a month, I sweet-taljed them into letting me buy one from an independent dealer at full retail, then credit my bill the $200+ difference between retail and upgrade price.
I suppose I could've returned the phone like the OP if I was dissatisfied, but fortunately I was happy with the phone.

Agreed- and he's already on his way to his next renewal. I wish billing credits were standard options for contract renewals, because I've gone years without a contract in the past because I was either happy with my current phone or didn't see a compelling must-have new model (or both.) Those years I'd have happily taken even a $100 credit in return for signing a year's contract.

While I agree with you about Verizon's end, what about RS, which ended up losing money (refunding full price is not free, for those of you not in business), losing their profit margin, possibly losing the incentive money from Verizon, and now possibly stuck with an opened phone, now 'used'?
Todd Allcock - 22 Jul 2007 21:36 GMT > While I agree with you about Verizon's end, what about RS, which ended up > losing money (refunding full price is not free, for those of you not in > business) True- however the OP was unsatisfied with that model phone. He was going to return it anyway- the only two different scenarios that apply here are:
A) return phone for refund and cancel 2-year contract extension, or,
B) return phone and keep contract extension and phone subsidy, which in this case was applied as a bill credit to compensate for a "full price" phone purchase.
> losing their profit margin, possibly losing the incentive money > from Verizon, and now possibly stuck with an opened phone, now 'used'? Again, the OP didn't like the phone- Radioshack eats it just like if they sold him a stereo he didn't like.
As to "incentive money" thre wasn't any- it was a full price purchase- Verison gave the OP the subsidy directly as a bill credit- not Radioshack.

I plan on getting the free phone and using it for a couple of weeks, I can always go back to the 815 and I'll at least get a chance to checkout the new phone before selling it. Much as I like the 815 I'd like to find a phone that worked as well but was thinner. NOT smaller, the keys are already too small for my fat fingers but thinner would be nice... I doubt I'll find such a thing so you'll probably see my nice new phone on Ebay a couple of weeks after I get it.

IIRC the 815 buttons are the same size as those on my v710, and the 4L phones seemed to have bigger buttons to me.

If you're not using a laptop, take a look at your keyboard. That's about the smallest size, closest together keys I want, although I'd prefer bigger with more space between the keys. If you are using a laptop, your keys are too small and too close together for me and I spend a fair amount of time on a laptop.
I know, it's not possible, but that's what I need!

I have to agree. Best phone by far. Great signal, great voice dialing; not a moment's problem. My NE2 is due end of this month....but I doubt I'm going to go for a new phone - don't want to give up my E815. Plus mine doesn't have that sucky Verizon User Inteface.....now that's a nightmare.

Limited to stock on hand now since it has been discontinued. I kept it while waiting for the Razr2, but the more I read about it the more I am convinced it is going to be Verizonized. What a shame.

You may have had trouble with your original phone. That happens sometimes. But the way the insurance works is that they usually send a refurb, which means you get someone else's headache. They're supposed to refurbish them to specs, but I have experienced them having missed a problem or two, as they usually only address the problem that the phone was reportedly sent back for.
I will add, though, that my son just replaced his phone under the plan and the replacement is perfect.
I guess what I'm saying is that it's probably not productive to categorize the phone as being 'bad'. Unfortunately you've been thrown into a system that has many potential deficit areas.

I know there are PLENTY of places where I can say... "Can you hear me now?" And nobody answers... -- --

I've had Verizon for many years, ever since it was AirTouch. I've travelled quite a bit in the western US and a fair amount in the mid- west and east.
My total number of dropped calls so far = 0.

Ness_net - 21 Jul 2007 18:42 GMT I won't go as far as saying "0" dropped calls... but I CAN say that my daily experiences, in many VZW markets around the country are 99.9% positive. A dropped call is rare. A drop or sometimes garbled call can happen, but I can almost always attribute this to a factor such as a tunnel, closing elevator door, underground parking, etc, etc.

I could also say "my total number of dropped calls is zero" but I certainly make sure to get the hell off the phone when driving through low spots....
I can give you an outrageous quantity of area that Verizon does not cover in New Mexico...

I've not used mine a whole lot in New Mexico but I have used it some and always had a good signal. I guess it depends where you are....

zwerl1@yahoo.com - 21 Jul 2007 20:04 GMT > Does this phone suck or what! Have to strongly disagree. Best current Verizon phone I've tried is the VX8300; it's a great phone, but my 2 yr old E815 gets better reception.
I don't think Verizon has offered a phone with better reception since the E815 was first offered.
