I give up. Help me out, guys.

Have been happy with my last two phones, v3m and e815, but it's time for my
upgrade. I have a headache from all the reading. Had it kinda narrowed down
to a few. I'm on a 1-year plan, so I'll give the prices with the phones,
along with my observations...note: I've always used a leather case, hate
'em, but my year-old phones always look like new....can't I find a phone
with a case that won't show scratches?

Samsung u540: $50. Really like form factor, fits in a pocket nicely. Afraid
my keys will scratch it up though. Missed call beep??? I'd really miss that.

LG VX5400: $20. Nice looking, but big outside screen will scratch up, I'm
afraid. Missed call beep?

LG 8350: $30. Wife loves her 8300, but I think they're both ugly (the
PHONES). Also, can't figure out how to do LongTone DTMF on the 8300. Can you
change that on the LG's?

KRZR: $179. Nice form factor, a little long, too much $$.

MAXX: $200. My favorite, but WAY too much $$.

W385: Free. I really want to love it because of the size and the rubberized
skin, but someone showed me theirs and the chrome part of the face was all
scratched up already by the camera lens. Also, no removeable memory, so much
for transferring pix. Tiny screen.

Need: Bluetooth, speakerphone.
Really want: Decent-sized display, removeable memory. Missed call beep.
Would like: Small form factor (will trade large display for tiny phone),
scratch-resistant case.

Looking for ideas and experiences.

Thanks,
Dean

The top of my list after BT would be voice dialing and DUN.

Y'know, my last two phones have had voice dial. Somehow I never got into the
habit of using it.

DUN - "dial-up networking"???? Nope, don't need that either.

It gets my laptop on the internet when there is no WiFi. Very nice.

When driving with the BT headset, just push the headset button and
dictate the name or number you want. No fiddling with the phone or
taking your eyes off the road.

The W385 is great for a basic phone - the first I've has that is
actually small and light enough to put in your pocket.  Fantastic
battery life, too.   I've had no problem with the face scratching.

Always wondered how a guy could keep his phone in his pocket. Mine wouldn't
last 45 minutes there. If I stand up, bend over, twist or turn, sit down,
carry something against my body, on my lap sitting down, bang into something
or someone...cruncheroo on the phone/screen.

You must spend your life standing at parade rest....

In my case, the phone stays in the left breast pocket when being carried.

It works OK in my left front pocket.

It may be overkill for you, but the LG VX9900 (enV) may be what you're
looking for. You can always add a case later.
Dean - 22 Dec 2007 14:27 GMT
$129, a bit too much, and I should have added;

MUST: Flip phone

But thank you.

For the best deal, let your plan run out and go month to month for a
while.  I had been month to month since August and I just got a
Motorola MOTOKRZR K1m for free, plus one free month of service.

The LG vx 8300/8350 are sturdy, reliable phones. I've never had any
difficulties with the DTMF tone on any service that uses them.
Bluetooth is easy to use, reliable with a variety of headsets, voice
dialing is a no brainer, etc. Speaker mode is very good.  I'd buy
another in this series, but mine is destined for long, productive life.

Dean, I've had a LG Venus for about 3 weeks now and I just love it. I see
what your looking for and the venus I've carried in my pocket full of change
and keys and I've yet to get a scratch on it. I also use the moto h555 head
set and my bluetooth works great. Give it try you can always exchange it
during the trail period.

Assuming you're a Verizon customer, and assuming you want a great phone
which does all the things you asked and more, and are willing to re-sign for
a two year contract instead of one, you may be eligible for the Pearl 8130
for $50. The most it should be for you is $150.

You get BT, speakerphone, small, small form factor, bright, sharp screen,
removable memory, voice dial, internet access, email, you name it. If you
want that 'rubberized' feel, you can buy a silicon skin for it for about 10
bucks. A leatherette pocket pouch (no clip) comes with it, and the leather
belt case available for it is the best I've ever had.

The only thing you won't get that was on your list is a persistent reminder
when you have a missed call. For some ridiculous reason, they've left that
out. However, you can 'fix' that too with a little program available from
handango.com called "Blackberry Alerts" for about $13.

I know I sound like an ad (or a shill, which I'm not), but I've had many,
many phones and am just loving this thing to death.

One more caveat: BB users on Vz are required to carry a data plan. That may
add anywhere from about $25 to $45/month to your bill. It's worth it if you
can go for it. That EVDO access on the internet is fast and it all works
like a charm.
Dean - 26 Dec 2007 03:29 GMT
Thank you for your input, but I'm on the $39.99 plan, and I only use the
thing as a phone. I send about 10 text messages per year. Not planning to
give them any more $$ per month.

Also, I insist on a 1-year contract. I like my new phone every 10 months,
not 22. If I were willing to go for two years, I could get the KRZR for
free, which, if not perfect, has about all the features I need

So, are there no phones for Verizon service that have the persisten
missed call reminder?  Will the handango.com program  create a misse
call reminder on a Samsung SCH-A870? thank

v325i has everything you'd listed except removable memory.
It's still possible, I think, to get it new from Verizon.
(It has missed call beep!!)
