Forced to upgrade?

I've been a verizon customer for a while now and a few weeks ago I
received a letter in the mail from them letting me know that I was
eligible for my new every 2 upgrade but since my phone (v3m razr) was
less than a year old and in perfect working order I ignored the letter.
The day after I got the letter my phone started acting weird. I would
check the time on the front of my phone then the next time I would check
the time on my phone it would show the time it was the last time I
checked but it would be upside down and where it normally said verizon
wireless and the correct time would be displayed in the usual place.
Then the battery bar would say that I'd have no battery left just
minutes after taking it off the charger and it would die but as soon as
I turned it back on the battery would be fine for a few days. Then
finally last weekend out of no where the speaker in the phone decided to
stop working so I had no choice but to upgrade to a new phone. Talking
to a few of my friends who also have verizon they all told me of similar
things happening to their phones after getting the upgrade notice
leading me to believe that verizon may be sending something to the
phones to make them un-usable so the customer has no choice but to
upgrade. Has anyone else had this happen to them?

First off:  paragraphs.  Use them.

Secondly:  your tinfoil hat needs adjusting.

No kidding.

Speaking of Renew Every Two. Anyone know just
how early a Verizon store mgr can waive that?

I'm due in May and want to upgrade earlier.

Check the website, usually you can upgrade a couple of months early.

After you log on to your number/account, the website will tell you the
earliest date upon which you can upgrade.  I think it's 2 month prior
to the 2 years.

More like 3 months.  My contract was due up on March 23rd and I
started to receive offers in early December.  Yesterday, Jan 11, I
upgraded to the Moto V6c World Phone on the every 2 year offer, got
the Mrs a pink Razr for 9.99.  Also moved the last of the kids (24 yrs
old) on the family plan to his own plan and also upgraded the his to
the V6c.

Thanks Garry.  Hopefully, I'll start getting notices soon.  I'd like
to do the renew in two deal in Feb/Mar.

I checked my account and I can renew now with the two year
discounts but I'm not eligible yet for the $100 credit.  Having
3 phones in our family, I'd rather wait until I'm within range of
getting that.

I guess my original question should of been - how early has anyone had
a store manager authorize a renew every two?

I'd spend the time until you're elligable researching the available
phones.  Whatever you get, you're going to have to live with it for the
next two or three years

If you get it from Verizon, find out if the FULL functionality of the
phone is available to you.  My RAZR came with the ability to transmit
files between my phone and my computer disabled!  I can re-enable it. At
the cost of voiding my warranty!

No.  My contract expired and I'm using a 5 year-old, non-GPS phone.  It's
working fine, and I have never been "forced to upgrade".

I have been buying my phones on ebay so I dont have to sign a new contract.
I already have more minutes than I need, so why get more and pay for them.
