With my new Sprint account, using a Palm Centro, all attempts by VZW users
to send me SMS message result in their getting a return error message
telling them my number "is a landline #. Reply Y to send all TXT messages
to this # as voice."

What gives here?

Did you port a land line number to Sprint?

No, this wasn't a ported number. Sprint tried giving me a different number
(in the same area code, which is 424) and the same problem occurred. When a
friend on the ATT network texted my Sprint phone, it got through fine. When
someone on the Sprint network texted me, it got through fine.

When I use a Verizon phone to text a Sprint number in a different area code,
it works fine.

I reported this to Verizon. Verizon is considering it to be their problem.

Might be a problem with the number portability database for this block of
numbers ?
Maybe the whole block is still tagged to their original landline carrier.
