All of a sudden my LG VX6100 is always in analog mode and I cannot
make any calls from it.  I can't even dial into it.

I don't have any idea what happened and am looking for any thoughts on
if there's anything I can try.  Verizonwireless said I should bring it
into their store because something might be wrong with the software.

Thanks,
Walter

So bring it into their store!!!!  It's no use the way it is, I can't fix
it and doubt very much that you can either.  IF your phone is still in
warranty, they should fix or replace it.  If it's not, they MAY be able
to fix it anyway.  Sometimes an expert can do amazing things!

Since this just recently occurred, is there a chance someone had
previously changed the option in the setup menu to look for an analog
signal only?  If so, it needs to be set to digital.  Analog service
was recently allowed to be turned off in many areas.

No, my daughter (her phone) would not know how to do that.
I brought it into a VZW store today and they reloaded the s/w but it still
just cycles from Analog to 'searching for service'.  The techs (on the
phone) at Verizon said the store should have tested the phone before giving
it back to me (which they clearly didn't).

I didn't even know how to get into setup until the telephone tech today
walked me through various options and hard-resets.  I assume he was able to
check the digital/analog setting (where is this setting anyway?)

Oh well.....

On the LG phones I've had, type "Menu", then "0", the "000000" for the
Service Code.  The option is under "Force Mode".

Sounds like it's time for a new phone. Pay a lot at the VZW store and/or get
handcuffed into a new contract-- or pick one up on eBay at a good price.

If you buy on eBay, I've done better buying from a private party than from
one of the used cellphone megasellers...
