Am looking at replacing my Verizon phone and HP ipaq pda with a phone with
the following capabilities.
Phone
Outlook mobile
Wi-Fi (not proprietary cellular web browser) for browsing and email.
Other features (camera, music, gps, etc) not needed but I understand that I
may have to accept them as part of the package.
I have been a Verizon customer for over 7 years and would like to stay with
Verizon.
Any Verizon phones that fit this profile. I just can't tell from the Verizon
Web site. The issue seems to be true Wi-Fi. I imagine the wireless companies
don't want to give up the $30-50 monthly data charge.
If not a Verizon phone than any other suggestions? Any smart phone I could
buy separately that would run on the Verizon network?
Thanks
Howard

I did a little searching for you and found this posted on Feb 2008 on
another forum:
"On Verizon, the only two phones that can use a wifi connection to connect
to the internet are the VX6800 and the Samsung SCH-i760 (unless something's
changed in the past couple of months). There are other phones with this
capability built into them, but the cellular companies have been known to
disable functionality when it doesn't fit their revenue model."
I can't guarantee the accuracy of the poster's statement but he seemed to
be pretty sure of his post. Anyway, I thought it would give you a place to
start.
I think Verizon is one of those who prefers to disable wi-fi functionality
to ensure the sale of its data plan. I just got a BB Curve, which I believe
is wi-fi capable on other carriers, but not on Verizon.
