LG VX6000 problems continue...

I had problems with the battery life of my first phone, and most people in
here suggested the phone was bad, so did LG when I called them, so I
exchanged for the same phone.  This new one seemed to be fine all day
yesterday.

Until last night I went to make a phone call, and the inside screen was lit
and all white.  I couldn't get it to show any of the normal info.  I turned
it off and on, no go.  I turned it off, took the battery out, let it sit a
minute, then put it back together and turned it on.  It still had the white
screen, but after playing with it a bit, everything went back to normal.  I
could then make a phone call, and wrote it off as a software glitch.

I went to bed a little while after that, and it was missing 1 bar from it
battery, which was fine, cus I talked on it a bit yesterday.  But when I
woke up, the phone was off!  I turned it on, and the battery was dead.  The
only thing I can assume is that the software glitch caused the screen to
turn white in the middle of the night and stay lit, draining the battery
until it shut off.

While these kinds of problems are ridiculous anytime, I have come to expect
them every once in a while with todays phones.  However it is highly
questionable when it happens within the first day of using a phone.

Has anyone else had an similar experience with this phone?

Nope, no problems since I got it in Oct.

No, I am amazed that it recharges so quickly (just a few hours). Sounds like
somehow
you got 2 duds in a row, and should be able to get a new one.

BTW, this is a great phone!

I can't say my problems are identical, but I am having a battery charge life
of between 12 to 20 hours. I'm currently still in the middle of diagnosing
if it is the phone or the battery. (My partner has an identical phone and we
are currently switching batteries.)

I'll keep you posted.

Let me know if you determine if it is the phone or battery.  One setting you
can check in the phone is the "Power Save" function in the settings.  Make
sure that is not set to always on.

I am actually now on my third phone.  My second one had much better battery
life, however had a huge bug.  My guess is that is was a software bug.  The
main screen on the phone would just go white and I couldn't get it to
display anything.  The phone would still work, ie I could still make phone
calls.  I just couldn't see what was going on.  I would have to remove the
battery and replace it to fix this.  This problem was occuring often so I
took it in for replacement.

The rep said they had a bad batch of vx6000's, and replaced mine
immediately.  However I had to wait in an hour line.

Well, I'm still unclear what the problem is. It doesn't seem to be the
battery since when I switched batteries with my partner she kept about a 2-3
day standby time and I still had a 12-20 hour range.

I also noticed that, although we both get poor reception in the house, she
seems to always have at least 1 battery line where I often have 0. It is my
understanding that reception loss makes the phone work harder and thus,
could that be the cause of my poor battery life?

I took it back to Verizon today and the tech told me he "increased my port
speed" but he was unclear on just what that would do. I'm going to continue
to monitor the situation and I have a feeling the phone will be making
another trip back to the store this weekend.

Any thoughts from anyone?

When mine just died the other day, I took it back to the store and they said
there was a batch of vx6000's that were bad.  I dunno if that was a line of
BS or what, but why don't you try a new one before your 15 days are up?

I'm on my 3rd vx6000, and am unimpressed with both verizons service and the
phone.  I get dropped calls, and the phones batter doesn't seem to last very
long.  But I think I'll stay with them because of the corporate discount I'm
recieving.  Its quite cheap, and will work ok for now.  Maybe in a year
someone else will be better.

While it is not the norm, it appears to happen more than not: A mfg has a
bad batch of product.   It is one mfg run, one plant, one week, one day:
Have had similar concerns with various mfgs (Kyocera, Motorola, Samsung...
and although I love LG, it would seem they are not immune either).
Sometimes it isn't the phone, but a critical component that is bad from a
3rd source.  The net is the same: bad batch of component(s) translates to
bad phones, and I've seen a batch be as many as 2000+.

From our practical evidence: The LG VX6000 has been a fairly reliable
phone.... but not immune to industry <oops>

OK, based on (1) having the "port speed increased" not helping my problem
and (2) the recommendations of this group, I took the phone back yesterday.
Jury is still out on how the new one will cooperate. Hopefully it will be
just fine -- I really do like the phone a lot.

By the way, here's a funny story from when I took the phone in for service
the first time. I was describing to the tech that the phone was getting
about 12 hours of standby-only time on a battery charge. He mumbled
something like "That's about right." "Huh?" I asked. He replied "The phone
has about a one day battery life." As calmly as I could I reminded him that
a day is significantly longer than 12 hours and I also reminded him that my
partner had an identical phone, purchased at the same time, and that she was
getting a good 72+ hours of standby-only time on a battery charge.
