Has anyone had RECENT success with adding a PTT-disabled v60P to a
non-PTT account?

I read that it was possible to activate early on, but that VZW no
longer allows it.

Any experinces?

TIA.......

They haven't allowed it for many months now.  But the v60s is the same
phone as the v60p, with the PTT button programmed to be a soft key.

could you buy a v60s and have the phone reprogrammed to a v60p when you have
some one to PTT to? Seems kind of stupid to not let users migrate one phone
at a time.

Technically, I would think so (no guarantee).  Getting someone at
Verizon to put the latest V60P firmware into a V60S might be a
problem.

No need for that; it can be done by the user by using the correct
sequence of menus and options.

And I think I found my answer at hofo.  Seems that VZW allowed you to
activate a v60p on a non-PTT account for abour two weeks when the 60P
first came out.

Then VZW stopped allowing it by blocking out the ESN range of 60P in
their computer system system, and only alloed the 60P ESNs to be
activated on PTT accounts..

But when the 60S appeared (~12/26/03), it seems that VZW removed the
ESN block from their system, since the 60P is just a rebadged 60S with
different firmware but the same original ESN....

You got it reversed -- the v60s is a "neutered" v60p.  :)

There have been other rumors on HoFo that Mot/VZW may soon have new
firmware for the v60p that will allow it to be used with or without PTT,
basically making the v60s (only a small number of which were made)
unnecessary.  It might even be possible *now* for VZW to flash a p with
"s" firmware to disable PTT, who knows...

Yup, I had that back-asswards.

Pull up the sticker on a 60s, and you'll find a sticker for a 60P....

Might help them dump all those v60p's in stock too.
Not too many people seem to be going after PTT.

PTT *is* disabled on the P if the plan isn't PTT.  You push the PTT
button and get a "the network isn't available" message on the screen.

Such as?

Since my V60Ps were bought on a non-PTT plan after that was
disallowed, but long before the V60S was even announced, it couldn't
have been a computer change.

Or they still don't allow the P to be sold on a non-PTT plan, but they
allow the S to be.  Which would be kind of stupid, but they've done
things even more stupid in the past.

by frail date stamped 10-16-2003 22:16 and DemonMucha date stamped
10-18-2003 03:16 for a keystroke procedure which is supposed to turn
off the PTT initialization in V60p phones.  I have not tried this
procedure and do not know if it works, but it seems simple and several
folks on Howard Forums and on the Wireless Advisor forums have said
that it works.  Try it only at your own risk or contact one of them
for more information.
