This is from the Wall Street Journal on 1-28-2004:

Motorola Inc.'s problems getting camera phones into the market in a timely
manner have been widely reported. The world's No. 2 cellphone maker missed
virtually the entire U.S. holiday shopping season with new phones that
Verizon Wireless, Cingular Wireless and AT&T Wireless Services Inc. hoped to
promote heavily during the top-selling period of the year.

AT&T Wireless and Cingular, a joint venture of SBC Communications Inc. and
BellSouth Corp., are finally selling Motorola camera phones. But Verizon
Wireless still hasn't.

How come? According to a person familiar with the matter, Verizon Wireless
got a model from Motorola -- called the V810 -- in December and technicians
brought it into their testing lab to try it out. They extended the phone's
antenna, looked through the viewfinder, snapped a picture and discovered ...
the antenna was visible in the picture!

A spokesman for Verizon Wireless, a joint venture of Verizon Communications
Inc. and Vodafone Group PLC, said the phone was still in testing and the
company hoped to release it soon. A Motorola spokesman pointed out that
versions of the phone are already sold in China and South Korea, with no
complaints. Plus, he said, most people wouldn't need the antenna extended
while taking a picture, since they couldn't simultaneously place a call.
"Whatever their needs are, we're going to address them," said Ray Roman,
corporate vice president and general manager for Motorola's cellphone
division in North America.
