Any VZW Promo/Plan/Phone Announcements Today 1/29?

Some posters on Howards Forums claiming to be VZW employees said there
were supposed to be some big announcements today 1/29 about promos,
plans and phones.  They said, for example, that  we would hear about
Verizon's plans for the future direction of PTT.

Now this day has come and is almost gone, but those same posters at
HoFo seem to have gone silent and I haven't heard anything more about
any big announcements.

Does anyone know if there were any major announcements by VZW today
other than financial news and corporate bragging about how many net
new subscribers switched into Verizon Wireless in the last period due
to number portability?

Not sure if this qualifies for "major" but they introduced a new phone
today-- the LG 4500. It's a juiced up 4400 but dual mode only- no AMPS
coverage.

What zip are you in?   I just checked my zip (48335) and the 4500 is not up
there yet.  MI always seems to be last when VZW launches new products and
plans.

I just ordered a V60s through the mail.  It still hasn't come yet, which
I'm wondering if they are discontinued completely because I have not
received it yet.  I am starting to wonder if I should shoot for the 4500 if
they are out of the v60s.  I don't really need analog, anywhere I have gone
I have been in Digital Service either on VZW or a roaming partner.  We'll
see what happens with the v60s issue.

I don't see it on the Phones page at Verizon yet, but the official
announcement saying it will be available today is on the
verizonwireless.com website under About/News.  The 4500 looks like a
sweet phone with lots of bells and whistles.

Atlanta. I tried one out in a company store yesterday.

Although ZIP can be important, I have found that your plan is just as
important.  Non tri-mode phone will not appear on the upgrade web page if
you are on a National Single Rate Plan.  Because VZW does not allow non
tri-mode phones on that plan.  Example, I have a 4400 and the NSR plan.  I
cannot upgrade to the 6000 on that plan and the 6000 does not appear on MY
VZW web page.

Plan minutes aren't changing.  MTM will now be called "In Network" and all
single rate plans $39.99 and up have it unlimited instead of 1000.  4500 is
now available in most places.  Samsung 610 out around Feb. 10th, Kycocera
slider in March sometime.  PTT imo is going to be on back burner as far as
advertising goes and will be revamped this year.  Thats just my feel on it.
Verizon picked up over a million customers in 4th quarter, now around 37.5
million total.

KC,

Will the "In Network" offer be a limited-time promotional offer or is
it a reasonably permanent change in the way M2M minutes are sold?   Is
there much risk this unlimited In Network promo won't be available if
I wait six months before I decide to add it to my plan (since I
understand it requires a contract extension)?

I have always found your posts to be both informative and reliable.
Thanks for your contributions to this newsgroup.

KC,

Can you define "In Network" for us in terms of the new M2M coverage
area?  Does "network" apply only to Verizon's native network or will
it also include the extended network (with blinking black triangle
indicator)?  Obviously, it will not apply to true roaming (solid black
triangle indicator).

Its still the regular MTM rate area, so only Verizon's native areas.  I
heard a rumor last year that Verizon would soon be including Alltel's areas
as the MTM area also but haven't heard anything about since.  As for your
question on the other reply, I am sure its a promotional type thing but will
be running for most of the year if I had to guess but can't say for sure.
You never know when they may change something around.

In no way altering what you are saying, it would make sense.  Some 2
or 3 years ago, Alltel in the Carolinas began considering all of NC/SC
as a local area; they and Verizon, BY MY ESTIMATE ONLY, each cover
about 75% of the population natively (Verizon, again estimate only,
50% geography, Alltel 70% ... three major areas of overlap) and M2M
applies throughout.
