I just switched to verizon from cingular and i have the lg vx6000 and my
wife has the lg vx4400b. We do not have the link cable for either, yet. Is
there anyway or anywhere i can get free ringtones and wallpapers? I plan on
getting the link cables for both phones in the future whenever i can scrape
up some extra cash and i already have the bitpim prog downloaded. I just
wanted to know if there is anything i can do until i get the cables? Any
help would be appreciated. Thanx.

Have you seen the prices for things under GetItNow??? Expression

I didn't care that my 4400B didn't come with games... until I was stuck at the airport.  I
downloaded some games and still use them so it was worth it to me.  I have not used get it now for
wallpapers or ringers.

I very much dislike the fact that my 4400B came without games
precisely because of the type of situations that you described:
airport, doctor's office, ride on a bus, etc. I used games on my
previous phone all the time.

The reason the phone comes with no games is that Verizon wants to
charge customers extra for them. It's not enough that the phone prices
at Verizon are higher than any of its competitors, and that their
monthly fees are higher as well, they have to squeeze a bunch of extra
money for what should've been provided with the phone!

The thing I can't figure out is howcome Verizon has the lowest ARPU.
See bottom graph on http://nordicgroup.us/ssub/4q2003.htm

Are the other carriers that much better at nickel and diming people?

Other carriers are not bloated baby-Bell bureaucracies like Verizon!
Changing a name is not the same as changing the business model.

Er, isn't Cingular a joint venture of some sort between BellSouth and SBC
(formerly Southwestern Bell)?  Two of the biggest "Baby Bells" out there.
Verizon's heritage is only half-Bell (Bell Atlantic + GTE (one of Bell's
first competitors, wasn't it?))....

And AT&T (of "AT&T Wireless"), of course, used to be Ma Bell herself!

Maybe Sprint is a relative newcomer (if one can be nearly 30 years old and
still be a "newcomer"), but FWIW I'd argue that all the "bigs" in the
cellular world are well-established bureaucracies, and there are some with
even closer ties to to Ma Bell and/or Baby Bells than Verizon....

Almost correct, Verizon is a marriage of Bell Atlantic and New York Bell.

Sorry, I maintain that Verizon is GTE + Bell Atlantic.  Here's one
reference:

Verizon Becomes Official
June 30, 2000 (3:00 a.m. EST)
By Margie Semilof, CRN

Two old names in the telecommunications industry became history Friday with
the completion of the merger of Bell Atlantic and GTE.
The New York-based carrier will now be known as Verizon Communications. The
merger was marked by the spinoff of GTE's Internet division, GTE
Internetworking, into a separate company, now known as Genuity. Genuity
(stock: GENU) launched its own initialpublic offering this week.

"In '84, the Bells fought to retain the Bell name," said Peter Bernstein,
president of Infonautics Consulting, Ramsey, N.J. "Now, with just Bell
South, we've jettisoned all the Bell names and the telephony associations."

Verizon's management includes Charles Lee, former GTE CEO and now Verizon
chairman and co-CEO, and Ivan Seidenberg, former Bell Atlantic CEO and now
Verizon president and co-CEO.

Nope.  You missed two steps.  Verizon was formed from GTE and Bell
Atlantic, as stated earlier (I worked for GTE at the time, so this
part I experienced directly).  Bell Atlantic had earlier absorbed
NYNEX, which in turn was a merger of New England Telephone & Telegraph
and New York Telephone.

Hey,  Wasn't the original post for this discussion asking for ringtones for
VX6000 and VX4400b.    Seems like everybody discussed everything BUT what
was originally requested.    What about the ringtones?

Ok, you have me confused.  Given Verizon has the most expensive
plans, yet the lowest ARPU, that implies they do very little
to make up the difference.  On the other hand, carriers with
lower priced plans yet higher ARPUs must be doing it through
some form of nickel and diming.

I can't understand the relevance of your comment.  We are not talking
about profit per user, or why plans are more expensive.

I actually see VZW doing very little nickle and diming.  About the
main way they do it is the GIN stuff.  But BitPim has negated
people incurring charges for common things suck as ringtones
and wallpapers, they they otherwise would have done via GIN,
certainly at least the phones in this thread.
