T-mobile (then voicestream), AT&T Wireless TDMA, four years ago were able to
provide seemless features when roaming including caller ID, voice mail
indication and SMS. My Verizon phone when roaming works for placing and
receiving calls, but doesn't have VM indication, no SMS, and caller ID often
fails.
Anyway, it just seems odd to me that other competitors can deliver nearly
seemless service when roaming and Verizon cannot. Of course, that's not the
whole story or I'd still be with one of the competitors. I continue to
receive data for free on Verizon which is a primary draw to their service.

Well, T-Mobile/VoiceStream uses GSM, which is designed from the ground
up for seamless roaming. Although if AT&T could do it, Verizon should be
able to as well.
