Ok, I realize I'm probably the last to know but just where *are* those
free ringtones and graphics for the LG VX6000? Every web site I find
says "free" until you go to download them then it's $0.99 or $1.00 for
10 or some such pricing scheme. I'm not against free enterprise but I
really would like to find those freebies....

Thanks for any links.

If the ringtone is of a copyrighted work (eg songs, TV theme tunes etc)
then royalties are actually owed to the composer.  Those sites are
ensuring that happens, as well as covering their own expenses etc.
(I have heard that using less than 10 seconds of a copyrighted work
is ok, but can't confirm this).

There's no rule or law saying that a certain amount of infringement is
OK.  An individual might be able to claim fair use if they copied music
from a CD they already own, but selling it would be a different story.

I suspect that not everyone who sells ringtones actually pays royalties.

I am a musician of 30 years and have strong feelings about getting
paid for my work but that's not my point nor my question.

And so I must return to my original question and my point which
is....if you pay money....any money for something it is NOT free. So,
I can only conclude from my experience that there ARE no free
ringtones that I have found.

You can certainly conclude that there are no free ringtones that you
have found.  That doesn't mean that there are no free ringtones that
someone else can find.

I had a hard time finding free ringtones for the VX4400.  I eventually
found some through HowardForums, but the one I ended up using (a plain
ring) is my conversion of one of the Windows system WAV files, converted
with dbPowerAMP and installed with bitPim though the Mobile Office
cable.  All that's free except for the cable (I think that the Windows
WAV is probably covered by fair use, since I have a Windows license).

You might want to look at "How to put mp3 rintones on your LG VX6000 for
dummies!"

Another thread, "*noob* how do i load ringtone to my phone"

  <http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=326248>

says that you can send a ringtone to a VX6000 via email.

Somewhere on howardforums I found a pointer to a ZIP file containing a
bunch of free ringtones.  There's a lot of information in there, but it
takes patience to find it.

1. Converted to what format?
2. What is dbPowerAMP, is it free, and where can I get it?
3. Bill's lawyers might disagree.

Hey everyone! Just found a new web site w/free ringtones and wallpapers.

http://www.mvp-hosting.net/cell/index.php

I have the lg vx6000 which is a camera phone and all i did was downloaded
the file to my computer and e-mailed it to my10digitphonenumber@vwzpix.com
and either saved the message on ur phone as a pix for a wallpaper and a
sound for a ringtone. Hope this helps and everyone can get them whether they
have a camera phone or not!    :)
