Turn on phone, when it comes on and is ready for use, within 10 seconds
of power up, enter 289, F>, # , 1

The banner setting is buried somewhere in there.  I want to say under NAM 1, but
can't remember for sure off the top of my head.

Does anybody know if there is a similar code to change the
banner on an audiovox 8900?

Has anybody been able to download pictures from a verizon Audiovox
8900 directly to a pc?

Right after start up screen runs, on power up.
289 F #1

Scroll to  "General Settings" > Yes

Scroll to "Idle banner Setting" >Yes

Clear, then add new banner text or leave blank. >OK
Press the LEFT, green colored VAD key to store.
Phone will power cycle
