It got dropped ... on pavement ... twice ...
The case is scratched all to hell.
Fortunately all of the important pieces are still in tact (lens, outer
display is untouched, nothing broken.) It's purely cosmetic damage.
Has anyone figured out a way to "touch up" the paint on these devices?

Case or pouch?
Actually fixing the cosmetic damage would probably be pointless.
1) If you are that concerned/aware of the cosmetics, a home repair
job probably won't satisify you.
2) If you are skilled enough to do the job yourself to your satisifaction,
it's probably not going to be cost effective (materials and/or opportunity
cost).
3) If you dropped it... on pavement... twice... you are more than
likely to drop it again and have to repeat the process.
4) If you dropped it... on pavement... twice... you are more than
likely to drop it again and do more than cosmetic damage.
(of course I've done things like spending weeks making a rack
for my stereo).

No, but this is the very reason that I buy a leather case before I ever
use a phone for the first time :)

Some time around 27 Apr 2004 01:52:55 GMT (give or take a month), someone who says they are named

You can buy faceplates for the VX6000 to replace the scratches. Do a Google
search.
