I was wondering that in this day and age of technology, do the
screensavers that you can buy from various service providers... do they
really "save" your screen? I remember in the old days when you could
get screen burn from some image or text being displayed on a moniter for
too long.
I am mainly refering to the "candy bar" style phones... not the flip
models where the screen turns off when you close the flip. Has anyone
experienced screen burn on any newer model of phone in the last couple
of years?

LCDs don't exhibit the sam "burn-in" that CRTs do.
Your screensavers's doing nothing more than providing (simple) entertainment.

And using up more battery.

My eight month old Nokia developed a burned-in image that looks like the
Virgin Mary. I put it on display in my living room window most weekends and
people drive from all over the county to see it. Lately, I've noticed it
starts to "weep" on many holy days of obligation.
Verizon reminded me that since they can modify the customer agreement at
their sole discretion, they're going to start levying a special "religious
relic fee" each month on my bill.

Yes. I had an Audiovox CDM8900 that had crashed. On boot it hung at
the very first screen - white background, Verizon Wireless logo and
the backlight on. I later left it on for 10 minutes to see if it
would somehow fix itself.
It didn't and the screen burnt in white. You could barely see the
VZW logo. I powered off the phone, and checked it an hour later.
It was still like that when power was applied, and still the same
story the next day when I got the phone replaced.

No. Screensavers don't even do that on modern computer monitors anymore -
they're not needed.
All they are at this point is "eye candy."
