Hi folks,
Got 2 LG vx4500 phones recently. Nice phones.
Needing help on the following:

 - Banner setting :          Set banner on wife's phone. Works fine.
Set banner on my phone. Does not
work. Displays the "Verizon Wirelss" banner
Went to the Verizon store, tech
says it has to do with software. Didn't explain
why wiffe's phone works but mine
doesn't.

- Wallpaper setting:       Wife loves all the pretty wallpapers. I
prefer a plain white back ground.
No setting in phone for "no background"
I understand I can load wallpapers
into the phone but that I would need some sort
of data cable and software. Please
advise on what/where to obtain such cable and software
                                    and recommendations on its usage.

- Tones                         Wife and I prefer tones that are
professional. The default ring tones are fine but we'd like
                                    something even more subtle.
GetIt(tm) only has those music tones. Any recommendation
on a place to obtain more
professional tones?

Please post your advice here. Thanks in advance.

bitpim and a data cable so you can upload what you like.

For banner: If you want to display your custom banner, make sure that the
clock setting is set to the default (not digital or analog).  Might not make
sense now, but the big clocks make the custom banner go off the top (thus
making only the VZW banner show up)

For wallpaper: I would suggest just the data cable thing like below.. not
too familiar with this

For tones: Im not sure where you could find an actual "normal ringer" as the
LG4500 is has a polyphonic speaker, making all of the tones to sound
somewhat music like.  The first 3 or 4 are probably the best "real" rings
you'll get

Hope this helps

Went to the bitprim website . got info.
Banner problem solved by changing the clock back to digital.
Thanks guys.

I also have a VX4500 and I downloaded bitpim.  Disappointed, it only
supports VX4400.  Got errors when I tried to download phone info to my
laptop.

Isn't it terrible what people give away for free?  You did of course
actually read the web page:

http://bitpim.sourceforge.net/

Note: you need to use the 0.7 development releases if you have
any phone other than the LG VX4400).

Is it possible to replace the speed dial number 1 to a number
of your choice instead of the voice mail number set by verizon?

I tried saving to the <speeddial> slot 1 but it kicks it automatically
to the next
avail free speed dial.

Also. Can the user set the "my phone number" or does it have to be set
by verizon. the number that is set in my phone's "my phone number" is not
correct.

TIA

How about "Edit Voice Mailbox #" shown on page 77 of the manual?

It looks like that works, but does anyone know if it's possible to enter
a 2 second pause for the voice mail number?  It doesn't seem to be an
option.

With my phone, a Motorola v60s, I have the number for voice mail in the
phone book with the number entered as *86ppxxxx - where pp represents
two pauses, and xxxx is the pin number.  This is not an original idea of
mine, I got it from this forum.

Now all you have to do is figure out where the symbol for pause is for
your phone.  I don't even remember where I found it for my phone, so I
can't help with that.

Yes, enter the capital letter T for each 2second pause

Nope.  When entering the voice mail number, the VX4500 only allows
inputting 0-9, *, and #.  And it won't let you change the entry mode to
text.  Any other ideas?
Crazy Diamond - 30 Jun 2004 01:59 GMT
I programmed this in my own VX4500
to automate the voicemail retrieval.
Try it again. Use the toggle key to change from number/symbol to alpha
Look at your phone again.  The option is there ...
again ... Menu/3/6/8 will take you directly to the edit screen
Use the toggle key where it says 123 and select Abc, then use the * key
to shift and voila ... enter "T"

I just tried this on my 4500 and found the same as Bob. The text entry mode
will not change from 123 mode via the right soft key (toggle key). Is there
another setting somewhere else that might be controlling this? My default
text entry mode is T9,
Crazy Diamond - 30 Jun 2004 03:02 GMT
That's odd.
The sequence I described below takes me directly to the edit screen which
allows me to use the soft toggle key to change to alpha .. don't know what
to say ....

try editing the voicemail speedial without entering the text .. save it
...exit
and go back into it ...

No luck.  It's in '123' mode and the softkey won't change it.  My guess
is they changed the firmware to prevent people from storing their voice
mail password.
