Newbie questions.
1. Does the antenna extend? It seems not.
2. The manual contains warnings not to touch the antenna, and to keep
at least two inches away from the back of the phone. How the heck do
you hold and use the phone and maintain a two inch clearance from the
back of the phone? Earpiece and put phone on table? Speakerphone
mode?

Problem with the LG phones....stub antenna. On top of that, it's a small
phone which means that whatever antenna is inside the phone, is not that
long either. This is one reason that a candy bar phone seems to have
better signals in that the phone is "taller" to begin with and the
antenna has a chance to be longer even without a popup. Never had the
signal on an LG good enough to keep one but I've tried two, both not
giving me enough signal where I wanted.
Samsung a650 I think is the only flip phone I know that has an extendable
antenna.
As for how you hold the phone, who knows. Maybe if they were to put out a
car manual it would tell you that you needed to drive without touching
either the pedals or that big round thing in front of you for steering.

No.

Almost every phone says that. Measure 2 inches. Not really that far -
just don't hold the phone right next to your ear.

Even if I'm using an earpiece, my *hand* holding the phone is a lot
closer than two inches, or my hip if I use a clip. I can try to put
it down on the table, but then where are we?
Are these things really ready for general use, or not?
Well, whatever damage they may do to the user, I guess only about a
billion people are ahead of me, so wtf.

People probably would, too, but obesity would kill them before the
cancer could.
