I am a new Verizon Subscriber. In the past I was with Att/Cingular for
many years and greatly dissapointed with Cingular. I know about GSM but
nothing about CDMA, is there a website that could explain Verizons
network protocols and terms such as ED-VO and PRL? I purchased the LG
VX6100 and so far I really like the phone, the only reason for this
choice of phone is that it has analog. I live in a very rural area that
is just on the edge of verizon's coverage. The coverage is very spotty,
the only way I can make a digital call is if I am near a window so 50%
of the time the phone flips into analog. Now when I visit my neighbor
next door I have no problem with getting and holding onto a digital
signal, I also find that the signal strength is not correct most of the
time, the phone will show a full digital signal but when I try and make
a call it doesn't go through, usually on the 4th or 5th attempt the
phone will flip into analog and then the call is made. Any opinions on
the VX6100? Is there possibly a phone that would give me better
reception? I live in Northeast Pennsylvania and I am still in my 15 day
trial mode, any suggestions or replies greatly appreciated.

I am also in NEPA. If you are in the corner of the state in Wayne or
Pike county you would be using the roaming partner there who doesn't
have a lot of cell sites. You would also know this because your phones
banner would say "extended network". If thats the case there will be
native VZW coverage there soon which may make a difference.
Sometimes you can get strange signal strengths because of the way RF
bounces around in the mountains. Your phone might be getting a good
signal from a distant digital only site but can't reach it and then
kicks into analog and uses another site that it can reach.
If it is not critical that you are able to move around when using the
phone you could get one of those trucker antennas and a short cable
which would probably make a huge difference in your ability to use the
phone.

I have the 6100 and really like it, but many people will advise getting the
Motorola V265 because it probably has better RF AND seems to hang on to a
signal quite well. I've never used one, but thought I'd pass this
information along.
Good luck!
