Americas Choice (Family Share Plan) And Internet Connection Fees

I have one of the America's Choice Family Share Plans. I just purchased a
new Treo phone and of course it is capable of connecting to the internet
via, I believe, Verizons NationalAccess (40 to 60 kbps) network- the slower
of the two data networks. Are there any fees above and beyond my normal
monthly fee for using this service? If so, can I use my peak minutes toward
the data connection? Can I connect to the internet all I want during off
peak hours (nights - weekends)?

Why not call vz and ask them?  You might want to make two calls to see if both
reps give the same answer.

These guys never cease to amuse me. I called Verizon- 4X and got 4 different
answers. First I pretended I was a new customer and was assured that I could
surf the internet all I wanted on a Treo (which I had not yet purchased) w/
out incurring any additional charges. To make a long story short, all of the
answers I received were firm and authoritative yet contradictory. Of any
company in the USA, Verizon is the most difficult to deal with as a
customer- worse than the banks. Honesty, or lack thereof, appears to be a
big issue when dealing w/ Verizon reps. Clearly they need to raise there pay
rate and hire better quality people. Do away w/ the commission based guys as
well. Seems to me they are very loosely monitored. I've found over the years
that almost always they will give you misleading information so they can get
the sale. So much so that it seems to be the rule rather than the exception.
Anyway's, I'm no closer to knowing the answer now since I don't know who of
the four to believe. I guess I'll have to dip my toes in the water slowly
and watch the Verizon bill closely over the next few months.

Next time I call I'll be sure to make a recording so I can play it back to
the billing people when a dispute arises. As I see it, since they tell me
that my conversation will be recorded for "training" purposes they have
already consented to, and are aware of, my recording.

Do you think it might be easier to just get a copy
of the plan contract and read it?

Easier than Usenet? Actually, no, I don't think it would be easier. I've
been getting information this way for decades now and it's never let me
down. You could call it a preference I suppose. What I like most is that
it's quick. Much much quicker than Verizon. That said, since I'm so busy,
perhaps you can help Quickie. Could you do me a personal favor and get me a
copy of my plan contract?

Funny you should mention this Quickie. Some years back I had another problem
although the circumstances were a bit different. The disagreement was over
an erroneous credit report w/ Verizon's land line/ Baby Bell unit. After
several months of getting nowhere w/ Verizon I went down to the courthouse
and filed. Without going into all of the details, I did gain a very
favorable disposition by refusing to settle. A bit protracted but I
eventually won damages, a judgment and so forth.

As it relates to my current dilemma I don't think we're there just yet-
they've not yet damaged me and clearly I'm doing everything in my power to
prevent them from doing so, hence my original question, i.e., let's not be
to eager. None the less I'm pleased that we've become buddies. Do call me
buddy won't you Quickie? I'm so terribly fond of you.

p.s., I do wish you would reconsider and fetch me a copy of Verizon's "small
print". I'm sure it's all in there and I'll come away with a definitive
answer to my original question. As I'm so pressed for time  I would most
appreciate your assistance.

Well, lets go to court and make Verizon  set up a phone that the blind
people can use. They have the lgvx4500 and the 4650, but all the menues
aren't accessable.

Yes, no, sort of.

If you didn't specify a data plan then I believe it defaults
to the "pay as you go" data plan. That would be $0.15
per Kilobyte?  If you want to use more there are plans
for a fixed number of megabytes or the unlimited data
plan for $49? It seem that you *may* not get charged and
only use minutes if you connect to a dial-up ISP that is
not VZW. For example my SBC  DSL service came with
dial-up access too.

Call customer service and ask for data services and
get clarification on what you have now and what alternatives
are available to you.
