I hate cell phone companies but I like having a cell phone.  So I want
to buy a phone on the open market and transfer the chip in my current
phone that contains my personal data, phone no. and directories.  The
problem is, I have no idea how to do any of these things.  Who can send
me to the right place for info?

Mikey, you sound like a first class techno-boob who probably has to read the
directions to get the top off a mayonnaise jar. You'd be better served
finding a good shrink to help you get over your irrational hatred of cell
phone companies.

If by chip you mean SIM card, Verizon doesn't use them.
