Well, I have the cable, the software and when I bring in a wallpaper or
ringtone I can't find them on the phone. Is this a verzion software thing
that needs to be cracked?? I'm still in my 15 Day trial and will drop them
if I can't use my own ringtones and wallpapers

Not sure were you went wrong but 8100 works with bitpim.

My 8100 works fine without doing bitpim. Maybe they found out that some
left the store and they blocked it.
Bitpim does work with the 8100 just fine.

You have to link the phone with the correct Com port. I gave up on the
cable and use Bluetooth.

The firmware of my VX5200 is programmed to ignore wallpaper and ringtones,
unless they are added to the phone by "Get it Now". There is a way around
this, but
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR YOU DAMAGING YOUR PHONE BY DOING THIS.
Besides, I don't know if the VX8100 is programmed the same as the VX5200.
But on the VX5200:
Use bitpim to explore the filesystem of the phone and add images one at a
time to the proper folder (one is called "ringtones", the other obviously
has wallpaper images in it) under the "dload" directory. (example:
/dload/ringtones) To add files, RIGHT-click the right side of bitpim,
where the files would be listed and add them one at a time by browsing for
them. Don't use the ringtones or wallpaper tabs of bitpim as that doesn't
work. Create your files manually and then transfer them with bitpim using
the filesystem tab.
After files are transferred, the VX5200 still won't allow you to see them or
use them, because they weren't added with "Get it Now". To fix this:
In the filesystem explorer tab of bitpim, click on the dload directory
(/dload) to see the files (not subdirectories) in the dload directory.
Right-click and DELETE two files named ringtones.dat and images.dat
Then disconnect phone from data cable and power it OFF for about 30 seconds.
When powered back on, the two files you deleted will be re-built
automatically, and the new files (that you added) will be accessible. -Dave

The latest version of bitpim (0.8.04) works with the 8100. I added ringers
and wallpaper to the respective tabs and sent them to the phone via
bluetooth. I did not have to go through the trouble of manually adding them
the the proper directory then deleting and rebuilding the .dat files. My
8100 is running v04 firmware and has no problem seeing the downloaded
ringers and wallpaper.
