L'l John - 22 May 2006 17:03 GMT I am going to replace my VX4400 soon. I am wanting to get a phone that is tri-mode because I often find myself without a digital signal for making calls. The phone does not need to be loaded with fancy features, just need to make calls and connect to my laptop computer for getting onto the internet. Not on analog but when on digital service using National Access. Suggestions wanted. Thank you, L'l John

There are no EV-DO capable phones that are also tri-mode.

On the downside the screen viewing is terrible outside in bright sunlight,it has a external antenna connect but,for some unknown reason,is located behind battery door. Also the buttons on side of phone tend to get in the way at times if you are in a hurry to answer the phone.
The menu is abit convoluted but once you get the hang of it it's not that bad & it does have pretty good manipulation options. If you ever need to use the NAV pgm (@ extra cost) it's one of the best you'll come accross.
I'm not one to push a product but the v325 is one of those rare pieces of hardware that really do perform as advertised.Especially re reception & sound quality.

The part # you want is "SKN6371B".That's the mini-usb cable that will work.Remember...the cable will also charge your cellphone so it has to be a *real* one (OEM).There's alot of place's that sell them but, again, make sure it's not a knock-off part.I got mine @:

You can do a Google & enter the cable number above & find numerous place's to get it.

They have a pre Memorial Day sale going on. I saw where they had the cable packaged with the Motorola Phone Tools for $19.99. The cable alone is $6.89. Is this the same cable you recommended?

Is the Motorola Phone Tools something that would benefit me? I would not need it just for making an internet dial-up connection would I? Thanks, L'l John
al - 23 May 2006 16:53 GMT > Is the Motorola Phone Tools something that would benefit me? I would not > need it just for making an internet dial-up connection would I? That's the correct cable. That also is one hell'a'va price for cable/Motorola Phone Tools. And yes, when setup correctly,MPT does make life abit easier re connecting to I'Net.
For the money & use of the software plus cable I say go for it.I would buy the pkg in a NY minute if I did not already have both.
I have a *junk* email address I'll list for you if/when you get the whole setup & you have further questions.

LK - 24 May 2006 20:26 GMT Hi -
I'm considering the v325 also as New every Two option, but wasn't sure if it had online capability (using as modem to connect laptop). I currentlyI have National Enhanced Access - what would I have to do to keep that so I could access the internet using my laptop and the phone as a modem ?
Thanks.

LK - 25 May 2006 17:48 GMT My question is not about whether the v325 has capability ... it is about how to make sure I keep National Enhanced Access when I exercise the New Every Two option to get this phone. I don't recall that issue being addressed in this thread ... did I miss something ?

I went for accepting a new contract so I got the unlimited in/more free minutes/etc, and just got mobile web for a month (feature can be added/deleted for $4.99 a month, then that option will absolutely be added to the new contract.. Supposedly it will be on there anyway for GIN, but only for some new phones, not all, don't know about the v325, figured for $5, was worth it to get the feature for a month and be absolutely sure). Actually, while I still tether the laptop for email and stuff, found it was awful handy to be able to use the web browser on just the handset, and ended up keeping the feature...
Just looked, and from phonescoop at http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?p=742 that specific phone is 1x compatible, and has a web browser built in. I'd vote for going the $5 extra a month and get mobile web... :)

Hmmm ... thanks for the reply ... I'm trying to retain National Access (which I never got to work on my Kyocera 414x) so I can access the internet with the cell as a modem, but the main reason I want to do that is to read and send email when I'm traveling and do not have easy access to a computer, so maybe the mobile web option would be an easy solution ... not sure. I'd want to use it with AOL email ... but also to access my work email which might be more complicated. I hadn't even really considered the v325 until recently ... was looking at the Razr (and the E815) ... but people really seem to like this phone, so I'm gonna take a long look at it. Thanks again.

Thanks again. Sounds like you would get a lot of info out of the HowardForums stuff on motorola cell phones (including tutorials/faqs on how to connect to the internet, go to http://www.howardforums.com/ and click on motorola), or this other group... Aha.. found the other link...(I travel in an RV and there are a lot of people that use this for info on how to connect their celll phones to the internet while traveling, it was in my RV info stuff) http://groups.yahoo.com/group/InternetByCellPhone

Thanks ... have used them both before. The folks at the Yahoo group tried for weeks to help me get my Kyocera 414x to work as a modem through Verizon - they were very helpful and never gave up - I finally did b/c nothing worked in the end, so I figured I'd try again with a new phone that others had at least had success with ! Thanks again for the help.

Hopefully it will be that easy! Thanks.
ghamilton100@gmail.com - 30 May 2006 16:38 GMT Has anyone used the v325 as a modem? I can access the internet via national access, but cannot stay connected more than a few seconds. I installed the v325 as a modem using the Verizon Mobile Office Kit. Any help would be appreciated.

If you are connecting, you are probably set it up correctly.

Janet, I have a V325 on order from Verizon with the assumption that I can use this phone as a modem. Can I assume you are using the same model phone and are able to surf the web and get email using National Access with Verizon? I have been using my old LG4400 for this purpose for quite some time. It needs retiring!

You should also order the Mobile Office Kit that goes with your phone. There seem to be less problems with set up and operation when the kit is used.

Thanks Janet, If you have read all this thread you will see that there is a difference of opinion about whether the 325 will work. I have also read where the V325 will work as a modem. Anyhow, that is what I have coming day after tomorrow. I guess I will find out. -- L'l John
ghamilton100@gmail.com - 30 May 2006 20:57 GMT Hi Janet,
No, I am in a National Access area with a strong Verizon signal, and I have National Enhanced Services on my account. I can connect fine with my old Moto v120e. Are you able to connect with the V325 OK?
