Well, after several weeks of testing AT&T WS's E-911 system with various GSM
phones I decided to activate a SIM that I bought on E-Bay some time back.
I called 611 and asked about the plans and what was needed to get the SIM
activated. The girl started out by tellimg me that she ...
AT&T offers complex schemes.30 Aug 2003 18:28 GMT9
I do not know how many of you are on shared plans, but the shared
concept gets very complex and twisted from my point of view.
For shared local you need a digital phone, and the nation is roaming.
For shared national you need a GSM phone and you loose the mobile to
Old Phone30 Aug 2003 05:52 GMT2
I have an old Suncom Nokia 5165 phone.  I was wondering if I could
sell this phone for use on the attws network.  When the phone turns
on, it says, Suncom ATT.  Therefore, is it safe to assume that if
someone buys my phone, that they will be able to use it on the ATT
Why are there no GSM AMPS phones?29 Aug 2003 15:06 GMT13
Can anyone tell me why AT&T hasn't had a manufacturer make a GSM / AMPS
phone?  Is it possible to make a phone like that?
I live in Arizona and AT&T's GSM coverage is only in the major cities
(phoenix and tucson) and along some of the highways.  Their TDMA coverage is
It's not legal???28 Aug 2003 20:47 GMT20
The concept of locked cell phones was a special condensation from the
FCC.  It was based on the idea that competition would improve and that
locked phones would help get the cell phone industry soaring.
Since that time, things have changed.  There are far less cell phone

3595 sim-card problem27 Aug 2003 22:46 GMT4
I just got a 3595 new and in the last 3 weeks I have had to reset
(powerdown/on) the phone at least 4 times  because of a "Insert SIM card".
Is ther a problem or is this normal?  I've never had this problem or seen
anyone else have to do it either  Thank you in advance!
GSM vs. TDMA and other ?'s27 Aug 2003 20:54 GMT5
What advantages does GSM offer over TDMA in terms of voice quality, if any?
And also, I know AT&T is launching EDGE and later UMTS, but I have only seen
one EDGE capable phone so far. Are they launching EDGE just so they can have
a backup incase UMTS/WCDMA is not available?
HELP! Older shared minutes plan 27 Aug 2003 18:14 GMT2
As existing customers, we changed to a shared minutes plan with AT&T in
Jan 2001. For $29.99 for the primary account plus $10 for an extra
phone, it came with 125 anytime minutes, and a choice of 1000 night &
weekend minutes, or 350 long distance night and weekend minutes. We
There is not enough room in Dodge.27 Aug 2003 15:36 GMT9
At recent "The Future of Communications" meeting, often aired on C-Span,
the representatives from Verizon and SBC (Cingular?) both spoke in
unision.  With 6 major providers they felt that it was too many.
The Verizon spokesman went on to say that Verizon did not want to
sim unlocking?27 Aug 2003 04:32 GMT4
If you buy a phone through Cingular or AT&T, will they eventually provide an
unlock code for you?  If so, after how long.
If not, can these phones still be unlocked by 3rd-party services?
I heard from someone that there's a web-site which provides unlock codes for
Comparing Verizon and ATTWS in Detroit/Ann Arbor27 Aug 2003 00:49 GMT2
I am looking for service in the Southeastern Michigan area and have
narrowed it down to AT&T and Verizon.  90% of my pick will be made using
2 criteria.  Coverage and Coverage.  I am not a power user (1200
min/mth) but it is critical that I can make calls.  I know verizon is
Treo 180 on AT&T27 Aug 2003 00:40 GMT3
After reading a few posts here about people using the Treo 180 on
AT&T's GSM network I picked one up on eBay. It was a T-Mobile unit but
they gave me the unlock code. I currently have a TDMA phone on AT&T so
I picked up an AT&T sim card and unlocked the Treo. So far so good.

Northern Minnesota Coverage?26 Aug 2003 06:17 GMT2
I plan on travelling to Southern Canada (~20 Miles north of Fort
Francis on Rainy Lake).
What is the coverage like in Northern Minnesota?  It looks from the
coverage map that I can't get all the way up to International Falls.
