Can a provider change their operator logo without sending a message to the handset that the user woud notice? The reason I am asking is that tonight the logo on my handset (Siemens S55) has changed from 'YES OPTUS' to '!YES OPTUS' with the exclamation point being

Hi. The paperwork that came with this phone when I bought it claims it is locked to the Optus network. I put in my Virgin sim and made calls/sent text without any problems. So what do they mean by locked?
